The area for research, and hince strictly PhD students, seems to be pretty small. You would expect there would be an explosive amount of activity here, since the NIH and NSF are pouring money into support for people to pursue PhDs in the life sciences (free tuition anyone?).

Anyone else feel this way, or not really. I've been looking around for some forums, and all I could find were these. Good forums, yet expected activity is low. Unless there is an area of these forums I don't know about? (besides the research section, which is good btw)

Have you tried the Science careers forum? I will warn you that that forum is a little bit negative, though.

Most people on SDN are interested in medicine; it is, after all, the student doctor network. 😉 That being said, there are quite a few of us who are current and former grad students. You are welcome to come post in the parent forum if you like. Most of the posters are premeds and MD/PhD students, but med and grad students are welcome as well. Alternatively, we could post a sticky in the main forum encouraging grad students to come post in this subforum. That may or may not be helpful in generating more traffic in here.

On a side note, are you a chem grad student? My PhD is in pharmaceutical chem. 🙂

Edit: I just realized that you are yourself an MD/PhD student. So you should definitely come post in the parent forum in that case.

Well i'll be applying to graduate schools next fall, but I'm striving for a Ph.D in chemical biology. I couldn't find a PhD label, only MD/PhD. 🙂

I kind of find it odd that SDN doesn't supply a PhD student tag. I think it would be a nice addition for the (few) people who use this site who are in graduate school to have an accurate label.

PhD applicants use forums on college discussion and grad cafe (google them). The first one has an annual biomedical program thread and the second one has a lot of fellowship threads. If you want info on PhD programs check these out.
