Hey Guys,

I am applying with a 25S (got the S three times but Mcat jumped from 22-20-25). Yea I know its that that great of a score but I was hoping that experiences and my GPA of a 3.65 counted for something. Seems like MCAT IS the application nowadays. What are my chances for acceptance this time around at both osteopathic and allopathic schools? (Surprisingly, I got a UCLA secondary as well as many other but I am not sure if most schools screen). Thanks for the help!

Obvious but an important point is that your MCAT will hurt your chances in allo schools. Also given that your GPA isn't out of the world, you are definitely fighting an uphill battle with allo schools. Maybe listing the schools and giving specific ECs may help in terms of others commenting on your chances. Also, you can search on mdapplicants.com

ummm...worked in 7 hospitals for at least a yr at a time...volunteered abroad....3.5 years of research...shadowed many physicians...the whole works

not really shooting for high allo schools but schools like drexel, meharry, tulane, loma linda, mich state, thomas jeff and rosalind franklin

Osteopathic wise...my 1st choice is Mich state...one of the best primary care schools but i just dont know if i have a chance....i know its an uphill battle but what do you guys think?

to be blunt, you've got a good shot at DO schools, but your MCAT may keep you out of the majority of allo schools. polish your application and get it in as early as you can. if you dont feel organized enough for this year, you may want to wait until next year and put in your apps in REALLY early. for the DOs, focus on your commitment to primary care, patient contact, etc.

if you feel like you can break 30 on the MCAT, retake it. as you are now, like i said, it seems you've got a shot at many DO schools.

visit the pre-osteo boards to get an idea of where you stand and where you should apply.

your state schools, depending on what state, might be friendly with your scores for MD, but, since you havent said your state, whether or not you're URM, etc. just cant say.

state = Arizona....not much help there since the UA accepts weird applications

Arizona accepts weird applications but they also seem nicer to re-apps and older people. I seen them reject many people with 30-33s and also take quite a few people under 30.

Honestly w/ a 25 I would not apply to very many Allo schools. Apply to your state schools and a few lower tier schools but if I were you I would focus on DO schools.

Make sure you have solid ECs and good essays.
