Hello

It is the time of year where optomcas is soon about to open and as a reapplicant, i would like some advice from previous ppl who applied again and got in. What did you do to change ure application that made you get in the 2nd time?

I think one thing I'm going to change is to apply to more schools since my application is not competitive enough. I'm trying to get a job as an optometric tech, volunteer with a opthamologist, more job shadowing, retake OAT. Duno waht else to do?

Any advice will help me. Thanks so much!

it's all about the grades.. experience will only get you so far believe it or not.. if you said ur application is not competitive enough.. is it b/c of grades?

retake classes and retake the OAt... the higher ur GPA and the higher the OAT betters ur chances.

Do you think it's better to retake classes or take new upper year bio classes?

Probably retake classes. That way your prereq gpa goes up and your new grades will replace/average your old grades. They might not be impressed if you spent your extra year taking upper div plant bio classes, you know?

You need to phone the schools who turned you down the last time and ask THEM what made them reject you. If it's GPA, then don't waste a lof ot time volunteering with ophthalmologists or job shadowing. STUDY.

I would also ask them their preference on retaking classes. Someone else has suggested that. I would likely disagree. It would seem to me that if you got a C in Chem 101 but an A in Chem 301, that's going to look a lot better than a C in Chem 101 and then an A in Chem 101.

But again....ask them.

I'm not a reapplicant but here's something about retaking courses...

I just contacted some schools and asked for some advice about this. I have one C in organic that I was thinking of replacing, and I asked them if I would be alright with not retaking it. One school said redoing it isn't a bad idea but didn't give me a definite answer on it, and the other school said they wouldn't highly suggest retaking classes unless it was absolutely necessary... the second school's reasoning for this was because she suggested I take other science courses to increase my gpa. If I redid organic chem they will just average the 2 attempts, and this would have less of an impact on my gpa. So with the different answers from the schools I'm still debating on whether or not I should retake organic chem. I'm leaning towards not retaking it and hoping my OAT score in that section will be good. If anyone else has an overall gpa problem like me, maybe just take some upper level science courses. If it's a prereqs problem, then I'd say retake courses. Anyone want to agree/disagree?
