Hi All,

This is my second time applying and I want to make sure I have everything good this time. Last time I applied I had a 2.9 GPA and 310 OAT and applied in February so I did not get into any of the schools, unsurprisingly.

My GPA is now 3.0, but a lot of my pre-requisites are still very low. I took some over again in the summer but because of some family situations did not end up doing that much better in them. I still have 2 courses that I got D's in. (orgo +calc) I don't want to repeat these courses a third time but if that's what it takes, I guess that's what I need to do. Could I just say I am in the process of taking these/plan on taking them and still get an interview? Can I do these in the summer of next year?

I am planning on re-doing my OAT in September/Early October.

I have shadowed some doctors in private practice/commercial. Participated in research/leadership roles/volunteering, etc.

I am taking a year off and geting a job.

I feel like my application has not improved that much since the last time I applied, so should I wait till I finish my OAT/get more experience?
What else should I do??

After being on these forums for about a year, I feel a lot more informed about this application process yet still want to make sure. Thanks for the help!

Do not retake anymore classes. I recommend diversifying your application by perhaps taking a business management course. This will definitely be a conversation starter for your interview, especially if you plan on opening an private practice one day. Optometry in some respect is a business. So this will give you an idea on how to run successful practice.
Their is nothing wrong with taking a year off as along as you are productive. Take your OATs 1st and then decide if it is worth reapplying. Good Luck!

wow that is good advice
that would be a good start tho because i heard that in optometry school, there is very minimal business training

do you think its still useful to take the business managment course after I e-submit my app? so the marks won't even show up..?
