i got accepted into the umdnj program, barry and one of the public univ in my state. after talking to my advisor and ppl who got into dschools says that it doesnt really matter where i
do my masters program. i live in florida and i only need to pay 1/3 of tuition (compared to umdnj program or barry which is private) if i take classes at the public univ.
but i feel like people at the umdnj and barry have more chance getting into dschools. i just took my dat for the third time(20/20/21 TS, AA,PAT) but my reading is 16 and my undergrad gpa is 3.0 🙁

i was hoping to get any advice. i was planning on applying this summer but after my third time dat and no improvement i dont know if i should.

i spent alot of time volunteering and shadowing. thank you in advance

If you took the DAT 3 times without any improvement, I would not take it again. 20/20/21 is not bad! However, I think some schools have a cut off for each section. I'm not sure whether 16 is below that so you might be forced to retake. Anyone can comment?

But with a 3.0 GPA, you definitely need to take a graduate course to bump it up. I don't think it matters where you take your courses, as long as you ace every class! Good grades at an average or below average school > bad grades at an ivy league school.

I had a 15 in QR and got plenty of interviews. bump of the GPA, your test score is fine. It's a package deal, not one aspect of your application. people with 3.0 get in all the time. Increase the GPA and increase those chances even more.

thank you for the input. i was wondering if i should even apply to any schools without my graduate gpa.
i would hate having a gap year after my masters 🙁 but with my stat. do i have chances to ANY ds? i really dont care where i go for a dental school so im thinking about applying many private schools.

I took a year off, it turned into 4. But a lot of good things happened during those years. I had money to become more settled, mature, stable, get real life job experience, get married. It may take you a little longer, but remember there are plenty of students starting DS in their 30s and 40s. I can't say whether or not you have a shot because I don't work in admissions and I have a hard time understanding many schools' basis for admitting applicants. Sometimes they reject people you'd never think they would, and sometimes they accept people you never think they would. But I can tell you it's NOT that you don't have a chance, because you definitely do.
