Hello. I'm hoping for some great feedback to know my chances this year. The changes to my applicant for the 2009-2010 cycle as compared to the 2008-2009 cycle.
  • Application submitted much earlier (already submitted and verified now, as compared to submitted and verified September 10 of last year)
  • Improved MCAT score. I went from 10B 9P 6V O (25O), to a 10B 11P 10V Q (31Q)
  • GPA: BCPM 3.70 AO 3.82 CUM 3.77
  • Better medical work experience (I have now been working as a Health Unit Coordinator, and Emergency Department Technician for over a year now)
  • Better letters of recommendation (four more letters of recommendation from MD's that I work with in the ER)
  • More volunteer and research experience (hospital volunteer at a large teaching hospital, as well as medical research at the same facility)
  • Took an extra Science course (genetics) just to keep myself in the academic mindset, received an A in the course
What are your thoughts of my getting accepted? Thanks for your help.

The schools I've applied to are: Oregon Health and Science U., Creighton, Virginia Commonwealth, George Washington, Georgetown, New York Med. College, Temple, Penn State, Drexel, U. of South Florida, Michigan State U.

Looks good to me. I bet the only thing that really kept you out this year is the MCAT score if you were applying broadly like this.

Another of the expensive private "safety" schools you might want to consider applying to is St. Louis University. I don't think I had to write anything for the secondary, it was just 1 relaxed interview and if you get the invite early, they do interviews at different major cities around the U.S..

Thanks for the info... I already submitted to AMCAS. Do you know how you can add schools to apply to once you have submitted?

The improved MCAT score should make a big difference.
I'd add a few more schools just to be safe; get the number closer to 20.
