Hey all! This will be long, so please bear with me. Thank you in advance!

For reference on how my 2019-2020 cycle went: I got 4 II (two in-state) -> 3 WL, 1 R. Unfortunately my interviewing may have been an issue, along with an untargeted school list.

The reality of reapplying is settling in as WL movement is winding down, so I would like some help on making a school list. I have a draft below, but I am open to suggestions or cutting down (half of these are ones I applied to last cycle). Also, please let me know if I should remove the school I got a post-II R from.

My stats: CA, ORM, 3.84 cGPA, 3.83 sGPA, 515 MCAT (graduated 2018)

Paid non-clinical
~3150 hours working full-time in QA for medical devices

Volunteer clinical
103 hrs. hospital volunteering
257 hrs. clinical internship

Volunteer nonclinical
660 hrs. research (between two labs)
220 hrs. TAing for biology courses
320 hrs. student journalist
~160 hrs. tutoring and mentoring disadvantaged students
~60 hrs. activity coordinator for disadvantaged students
15 hrs. food insecurity volunteering

Shadowing
20 hrs. w/ Urgent Care physician

Where is your state of residence ? Where were your interviews and where are you on the waitlist ?

Hi Faha. My state of residence is California. I interviewed at UCSD, USC, Western Michigan and Albert Einstein. I got rejected by Albert Einstein post-interview and am currently on the waitlist for the other three.

Tufts
Vermont
NOVA MD
USF Morsani
Miami
TCU-UNT
Oakland Beaumont
Wayne State

Thank you for the suggestions! Do you think I can slim down my current list as well?

What do you think went wrong with your interviews?? Your credentials seem so good this scares me

Keep in mind these are my current stats; I've boosted my non-clinical and clinical volunteering by a couple hundred hours and gained more work experience (a whole extra year) since applying back in 2019. There are people who don't look as "good" on paper and have had more success than me, so don't sell yourself short!

As for the interviews... I was honestly running on lack of sleep and nerves for a few of them. Jet lag hit me hard for east coast schools... Probably didn't do as well as I should. It's honestly hard to say though, you never know with waitlists :(

It's also your state.... We all know about ORMs in California, it's an Olympic event when it comes to MD admissions. Sorry to hear about your cycle, hope it works out for you.
