So I applied during the 2005 cycle, but decided I was really burned out on school so I didn't complete my application by not completing the supplemental documents (DAT, secondaries), but my application was sent on to the schools anyways. At the time I didn't know there was a formal withdrawal process (now I know I should have done that instead). I know the schools saw my personal statement, however, they could not actually evaluate me as a canidate because my supporting documents never came in. Regardless, I will still be considered a reapplicant in 2007.

Now the question is how much do I need to redo my personal statement? 2 of the 3 schools I applied to said they destroy applications after 1 year, so they won't even have access to what I previously sent in. Also, its not like they could have even fully evaluated my application, so would it really be that bad to use same introduction (which I really liked) and change up the relevant parts, or do I really need to start from scratch? Thanks

Some things had to have changed in your life since you applied in 2005. If you want to take the easy/lazy route take your old statement and update it with some new thoughts and reason you continue to pursue a career in dentistry. If it was me I would probably hate what I wrote 2 years ago. If it were me I would read my old statement decide what I liked about it and then rewrite a new one. For me I believe that my personal statement was probably the one single thing that got my foot in the door for interviews. Consider rewriting 🙂

If it's good, just add the new info from the recent past and re-use what you have. That's what I did and it worked just fine.
