So I will be applying to d-school again this cycle. I didnt get in this past yr. I actually had quit dentistry after too many rejections this year but now I regret my decision for doing that. I am still interested in being a dentist so will apply this cycle. I already sort of saw the rejections coming since my GPA is really low, but DAT is fine.

So Im wonderin does it look bad if you apply again without contacting the schools who rejected you for pts you can improve upon?

Should I contact them now, even though its too late to at least get those brownie pts for at least asking them?

Can you share your experience with this and your opinion. Thanks!

-No
-Its up to you.

Your acceptance/ rejection is not going to be based on wether you contacted the institutions. In all honesty I don't think brownie points are going to help you out in a professional setting. If you need the help to evaluate your application contact the institutions, but if you already know what you need to work on don't waste your time and just work on them.

i would rather not post them since its embarrassing. suffice it to say GPA is very low. DAT was ok....

Hey so, if you are reapplying, try and show the dental school you are interested. If you do end up getting an interview, sell yourself!!! Tell them why they should accept you even if you have a low GPA and DAT score because chances are, they are more likely to accept more competitive people. They might not be interested in you at first because they want you to commit to the whole four years. The reason why they want you to have a high GPA is because they want to know if you can handle the work. If you can't handle undergrad courses, then dental school will be a lot harder because it is twice the credit hours. Also, I talked to admissions counselor at a dental school I will be applying to and they said even if you get the interview, you are still not guaranteed a spot because she told me that they still look at GPA and DAT score and other extracurricular activities and they nit pick applicants who aren't competitive enough. But if you sell yourself and tell them what you did to improve yourself, they will accept you. You have to persuade them that you really want it.

Good luck!
BTW You can't get brownie points for calling but you can call back all the other school's you applied to last year and ask why you didn't get in so you can improve.

Does it look bad? No. It's not something they would track.

Would you get brownie points? No. If anything, I'd recommend against doing this. If you submit, you're going to have an active file for the upcoming cycle -- THEN you call them to ask why you weren't considered LAST year? Either they won't care, or it'll make you look bad. There's absolutely nothing to be gained. Especially since you already know what you need to improve. Definitely GPA, maybe DAT.

It's impossible to say unless you supply more info. How low is low? 2.2? 2.6? 3.0? 3.4? What exactly is a "fine" DAT? 18? 20? 22? It makes a huge difference. If you don't give us anything to work with, nobody here can help you.
