I have a feeling I am not going to make it in this go round, since I applied fairly late to only one school and I don't have a stellar gpa. So I want to start getting a plan in mind for next year.

Other than applying on July 1, I plan on taking a different Physics sequence to hopefully raise my gpa, and get my Bachelor's in Biomedical Sciences.

Does anyone have any other suggestions for me?

You should branch out and apply to more schools. It's all about probability.

Start working on the essays as soon as they are released so you have all the time in the world to fine-tune them.

I am unable to relocate. So UF is really my only option. If I have to go through this again next year, I will possibly apply to Creighton's online program. But nothing else is an option for me. 🙁

Don't take more physics, instead, you should take Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or Biology to raise your GPA. You got high PCAT score though.

You will get a BS in Biomedical Science this May 2005, right? While waiting for the next cycle, you could apply for a Pharm Tech job and get its certification by studying online at [rxtechschool.com]. You won't rush to get in the "door" and you also get the field experience.

Don't be discouraged. It seems like you have already made progress by acknowledging that you will apply early next time. Who knows?....you may get an interview. I've heard of people having late interviews and I've heard of people being pre-selected for the next year.
I pray for the best..... take care

No, the BS would be May 2006; it is an option for next year if I am not in Pharmacy school. And the reason I was figuring on taking Physics is UF told me that if I took a different sequence than the engineering Physics I took in 1982 and got 2 C's in, that I could replace the grade.

1) wow, i wasn't even born in 1982 🙂
2) physics for engineers? wow, you must be brave
3) maybe if you shared with us what YOU think are weaknesses in your application (EC, GPA, pharm experience, etc), then maybe we could be more helpful. But yeah, I'd definitely take more upper division science courses and ace them to show the committee how much more intelligent you are than the rest of the applicants! (That's how I was able to get waived out of the 2nd half of G-chem from Loma Linda University). If you're pressed for time, I'd recommend taking more upper div science courses as opposed to retaking physics (despite a diff series) because quite frankly, physics is not even a science class (I called a couple of pharmacy schools and that's what they said) so it isn't as good of an indicator of your success in pharm school as is taking those upper div science courses I suggest. If you don't already work/volunteer at a pharmacy, I'd do that too. Go help the homeless, the elderly, the blind, or the psychotic and talk about it in your application. Lastly, you may not even need to reapply! I thought the same way you did (had a game plan and all for next yr) but thankfully, I didn't have to put it to use 🙂 I'M SURE YOU'LL GET IN!!!

If you are great at math and physics, then by all means take a different physics sequence. For me, I don't know if I could go through physics again. I made As in all of my lectures and labs, but the class was just awful. I think I'd rather have teeth pulled! If you don't get in this time around, I'd begin at USF this summer, not the fall; that way, you'll get one more science class in. USF has a basic pharmacology class that is offered to undergrads (Principles of Human Pharmacology - BMS 4402), and in the fall, it'll be offered on Tuesdays/Thursdays from 9:00-10:30am. 😉 I took it, and it's extremely helpful; plus, it looks great on your application.

I had to reapply this year, and odds were somewhat against me, too, but I made it. PM me if you need anymore advice, and good luck this year. :luck:

Have you thought of applying to more schools, relocating and then transfering backto UF next year. May be that will be an option.

Relocating is not an option for me, I have a husband, who has a good job, and 4 children in school.

I will take this into consideration. And I will definitely be contacting you via PM, thanks! I'm pretty good at math, but it has been 22 years since I have taken physics so I don't know about that. I just know I barely have a 3.0 gpa, and part of that is a F and a C in Physics I from 1982. 😳

I think it's a good idea to take an easier physics and replace the grade. To make the cut at UF, they are only going to look at your prerequisite courses. You can take upper division courses for the rest of your life and it won't affect the GPA that UF looks at. If you don't make it this time, improve the GPA and also get a degree. Almost all of my classmates have 4 year degrees. You have a good plan in place.

You sound like a very strong candidate when viewed cohesively. Here are a few of my thoughts as to why you should keep your head up-

1)You sound like an older student. This is an advantage as I see it. Anything that sets you apart is an asset, as long as you turn it into one. Based upon your postings, you certainly seem eloquent and well-spoken. I am sure this came through and resulted in a superior essay and questionaire.
2)I also had it affirmed this week that UF has not started making any reviews as of yet. You are right on track with the timeline.
3)Most importantly, almost everyone I know that is applying to UF is retaking the PCAT on the 22nd. I have been assured by all (admin and current 1st years) that these late scores are definitely evaluated. This means that a large part of the decision process will not even be finalized before these scores come in sometime in February. This should give your application enough time to be forwarded by PHARMCAS and subsequently evaluated by UF.
Hang in there and keep your head up!
