Current Stats:
cGPA: 3.64
sGPA: 3.53
MCAT:27M (previous 25O)
Major: Biomedical Engineering
Clinical experience:
100 hours of shadowing a doctor
Research:
I have my work published in a journal.
125 hours of biomedical research on a project sponsored by a hospital

My story: Last year I applied to only Texas MD schools and TCOM and I applied pretty late. My primary application was transmitted on October 24th. I only ended up getting interviewed at 1 school (El Paso) and got waitlisted. Didn't get in.

What I have done to improve for my second application: Research with a hospital, improved GPA, changed up PS to reflect change,

I submitted my Texas apps earlier this time around and the primary application was transmitted on July 16th. I have tacked on the promise of volunteering at hospital which I will do to hopefully improve my lack of clinical experience. I have also applied for St. George in the Caribbeans and got into their January class. I was hoping to see if they would offer me a scholarship but that's still under review. I have to submit a $1000 non-refundable deposit by the end of July to secure my January seat.

I'm guessing my only real chance in Texas is TCOM . What say you SDN community? Should I wait to hear back or just go forward with SGU?

Do everything within your power to go to a US school. Your ECs are really weak, volunteering??? Clinical?? And that's what's hurting your application more than anything IMO

Oh sorry I omitted some of the ECs:
-For three years, I was a leader in a religious society that was involved with outreaching to the homeless and raising awareness about social injustice.
-I went on a mission trip to Japan where I tutored English at universities and churches and outreached to the homeless for a month in the summer of 2011.
-Member of a biomedical honor society

Yeah I'm weak on clinical experience.

Your stats are fine for almost any DO school. I would go to a DO long before going to SGU. I would only look Caribbean if you exhaust all other options in the US.

This guy knows what's up. I would rather spend a couple extra years doing worthwhile activities to make myself a better applicant than jumping on board the Caribbean train.

It'll be harder in the beginning but in the long haul you'll be far better off.

I'd wait to hear back. If you got an interview from El Paso last cycle with a 25 and less ECs, then you have a better chance at getting interviews this cycle with a 27. Applying early does wonders for your TX chances I heard. You do have a good shot at TCOM. I'd go to TCOM over SGU anyday since it's on par with most of the TX MD schools. I'm sure you'll get at least a couple interviews from the lower tier TX schools.

Oh I applied with a 27 the previous time. So no improvement in the MCAT.

Thank you for insight and encouragement everyone! I'm currently leaning towards waiting a year now. Just need to find a job on top of volunteering that I will be doing.

Apply wider. Someone with your numbers has no business going anywhere near the Caribbean.
