Hey there buddies,

It is December 1, and I hope all is well with you all. Well, let's see. Things were very active last month with interviews 🙂 and acceptances 😀 and rejections 🙁 . All in all I think our group is holding its own. You guys really keep me sane thru all this.

So, I had my interview at Meharry in Nashville recently. It went really well (I think). I was impressed with the atmosphere of the school. I had heard some good and not so good things about the school, but I felt I could go there and do well. Everyone was really nice and personable. Maybe it was the southern hospitality thing. But anyway, I think I really impressed their socks off. Of course, now I'm just waiting. I should hear something by Christmas 😱 Isn't that cruel...to send out info before Christmas? Be still my heart.

With that, I hope that everyone else hears something from any remaining schools pretty quickly. And for those who have gotten rejections...those schools don't know what wonderful people they are overlooking. I am honored to have gone this far in the journey with you all. Just keep pressin' and never give up.

Peace,
mrsmac

P.S. did I mention that I gained almost 5lbs over the holiday? 😱

Well I just completed my first interview this past week at the univ of iowa, not my #1 sice I am out of state but a great school none-the-less. The interview did not go that well, but I am using this as my warm up interview since I have two more next week at Univ of Missouri and at So. Il. Hope all is well for everyone else, keep on keeping on peeps, we will get there soon. Then we can have our own show like Scrubs where we get into wacky medical school situations...(can you tell I have lost my mind from this process).
Well I better get back to prepping for next week

Hey everyone:

Congrats to all those who just did their first (or second or third) interviews! My first is coming up next week. I think the first is often the hardest b/c it's easy to get nervous. Just hope that I can keep it together.

Mrsmac: Meharry sounds great. Wouldn't it be wonderful to get your first acceptance right before Christmas? Wow!

I'm feeling frustrated b/c two of the schools I am really interested in haven't sent me an invitation yet, and I hear that they are booking into Feb. already. I was complete at both in August, aside from my MCAT scores. I really feel like the August MCAT is a big problemo this year. Okay, enough whining. More good news to come from us all, I'm sure.

Good luck on upcoming interviews everyone!

BH

Good luck with the interview next week Bunsen. My first is 12/14 and, despite the logic coming from one side of my brain, the other side is starting to get nervous. We freak ourselves out so much in this process. 🙄

I don't post very often but check the Reapp forum religiously (first applied in 2002). Thanks for making me feel like I'm not alone, guys. 😍

I'm a fourth year med student who applied from 1999-2001 and got in off a waiting list less than a month before classes started. I'm almost at the top of my class, AOA, etc. and have too many residency interviews to count.

HANG IN THERE!!!! This is the roughest part- but you all will be so primed by the time you start that you will blow out all the 22 year olds fresh out of college. Keep the faith, keep improving the application, and stay positive and determined in the interviews.

Good luck all!!! Stay focused and positive and you will win them over!

Good luck BH and klp on the interviews. I'm sending you all of my good interviewing energy, and mrsmac gets all of my acceptance energy. I think a thick envelope would be a great thing to unwrap around Christmas. Infact, if I was your husband, and I was absolutely sure it was an acceptance, I would probably hide the letter from you until Christmas morning.

Thanks for the post, PairODocs. It's nice for us to hear so many success stories to know that not all is lost for us. Congrats on all of your accomplishments. I'm sure we all hope to be in your shoes in 4 years.

Congratulations to all of you with interviews and acceptances! That's awesome! :luck: 👍 :luck: 👍

Not to bring everyone down, but I still haven't heard anything. 🙁

I was complete at almost all my schools by the end of october, but I havent received any interview invites since then. I'm starting to freak out because a lot of schools are already booked until February and even March... I think it'll be over for me if I don't get interviews this month... 🙁

I really don't get it. For one, I agree, it wasn't that bad last year. There are probably more applicants this year who took the April MCAT...

And, two, I should hve heard something by now. I mean, my MCAT is no great, but it's ok (28Q, BS 10, PS 10, VR 8). And, my GPA is good (3.75). I didnt go to an "unknown" undergrad school and I'm currently at a top school for my masters. I have done all the stuff we are supposed to do, research, ECs, volunteering, shadowing, etc... I even think that my statement was really good.

I'm starting to think that maybe one of my recs is really bad... Did that happen to any of you? I have waved my right to see those letters, so I don't know what they say and if they are good or bad. But, I have trouble imagining that any of the ppl I asked for a letter could have screwed me over... I mean, if they didn't lke me, they could have said simply "no", right?

AHAHAHAH!!! I'm really becoming neurotic... Sorry about venting... You guys are great support group! 😍

Hey guys,

Man, it seems like this is a busy time around here. klp, good luck on the interview on the 14th. Docsean, good luck with yours as well. BH, hey, I know you will do fine with your interview too. PairOdocs, thanks for the encouraging words. I hope to kick lots of young asses when I get there! 😀 😉 Jetskigirl, I'm receiving those positive acceptance vibes. In fact, I've given my hubby permission to be the first to open any letters that come. That way, I don't completely lose my mind, and he is a lot more even keeled than I am at this present time. In fact, I bought my daughter a doctor play set for Christmas and he asked if it were really for her or for me. I actually paused before I answered...both

Kitkat, hang on. I still haven't heard from my other schools and I'm trying not to freak out. Your stats are very good, and each school is different. I don't expect to hear anything from my schools until Jan or Feb. and I'm trying not to be neurotic. Always feel free to post whatever you feel, because we can all relate. Everyone...good luck this week.

Peace,
mrsmac

Hey guys,

Well I haven't posted for a month, but made sure to keep up with the good the bad and the ugly news, and thankfully the first of those three seems to be dominating the forum. Congratulations to everyone that has been accepted 😀 and those that have interviewed 🙂 . Good luck to those that are going to interview 👍 . And Finally, those schools 👎 that were stupid enough to reject any of you are not worth going to anyway.

After the arduous application process last year I was dedicated to improve my pitfall (the dreaded :scared: MCAT), which I hapily was able to accomplish. I would have to say that after reading the many postings in this forum I feel like a member of a family 😍 that I only wish I knew existed earlier. We have all been able to overcome adversity in an attempt to acheive our ultimate goal of becoming physicians.

Up until last week I was freakin out 😱 as all of us have done both this and last year due to a lack of interview invitations. I am happy 😀 and even more so releived to say that I finally got interview invitations on three consecutive days (U of S. Florida, U of Miami, and Einstein). I hope that I am able to provide some good vibes to the forum and know that you will all be in my heart when I interview in the coming month.

Your support showed me that the perceptions that medical students are egotistical self loving individuals is not even remotely confounded. I hope to lend all of you an equal support that you were able to provide me and my wishes :luck: this holiday season will be for each and everyone of you to get exactly what you want and are able to achieve our common goal of helping others.

You are all amazing people. Keep your heads up we will all be happy when this application cycle comes to an end.

Dr. AYY, congrats on all your interviews!!!! :luck: :luck: :luck: 👍

mrsmac, thanks a lot for the encouraging words. 🙂 Still no invites for me, but I'm hanging there... Crossing my fingers!

Just wanted to say "Congrats to all you Reapplication Buddies". 👍

Thanx KiKat37. Keep your head up, you'll see in due time you will get your invites. I mean after the past two weeks I realized good things do in fact come in threes and I am keeping my fingers crossed that you and the rest of our reapplication buddies recieve the gift of threes. 👍

I just wanted to help put reapplicants at ease (myself included) that of the current med students I've spoken too, the majority seem to have had late interviews at their schools and were obviously still accepted. Some were even waitlisted for a bit then accepted. There's hope! Next calendar year is a whole new ballgame, the suspense and anticipation begins...

That's what we need Cammy!

I'm off to Buffalo for my interview tomorrow. This will be my second interview this time around.

Got rejected from Rochester. Now I am to the point where I am numb to them. They stop hurting after a while. 🙂

Good luck on your interview tommorrow ma-bas you'll do great. I know exactly what you mean about the desesatization to rejection leters I got so many last year :scared: but a new year is coming and bigger and better things (med schools) will be accepting us this time around.

Go Ma-Bas! Good luck on the interview!! 👍 Thanks Cammy for the reality check. That's good to know, so maybe I won't be so nervous all the time. Dr. AYY, congrats on those interviews...I'm so envious 😀 Envious of the interviews and the sun you must be getting down there. 😉 I'm trying to imagine myself in FL and then my fear of hurricanes kicks in. So, I'll deal with the snow and cold up here. Anyway, I am beginning to find this group ridiculously addictive. I'm at work now and I find myself coming here multiple times a day. For goodness sake, I'm a professional! I have a full time job and I can't stay disciplined enough to stay away from this site for a full day! If I can't do this, how will I ever get through med school? Well, I definitely look forward to reading about everyone's interview experiences in the next few weeks. I have to agree with Cammy...the new year will open up "a whole 'nother can of worms".

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!! You guys were right!! I just got my *first* interview invite!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀

And, it's Dartmouth! I really LOVE that school, but I wasn't even hoping that they would interview me!!

Thank you so much for listening to all my b1tching over the past two months! You are awesome! 😍

:luck:

Hey re-application buddies!

December 1 was the most eventful day I have had since my last interview invites back in October:

Accepted at Penn State - YAY!

and

Waitlisted at Albany - boo, but not a rejection yet.

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!!!

Wow, Dartmouth! That's awesome !! 👍 👍

Mathilda - Congrats on Penn State!! 😀

Congratulations KitKat37 and Mathilda Keep up the great work 👍 Unfortunately, my happiness took a bit of a turn yesterday when I got my first rejection letter of this application cycle :scared: Damn Cornell 😡 You would think after getting one of those letters what felt like every week last year it wouldn't be so tough, but needless to say I was devestated. I am only hoping that my theory of threes (see previous post) doesn't work both ways (good and bad) 😕. Well whatever, I will deal with it and accept the bastard's (Cornell) decision apparently we have no choice in the matter  To comment on Mathilda's reply yes the weather is wonderful (sunny) in FL but I still think a snowy holiday season is the best. Good luck to everyone interviewing and awaiting decisions (hopefully they won't be similar to Cornells for me 😀 )

Hey Kikat, Congrats on your interview!!!

I had similar stats to yours last year and I applied late as well. I didn't get interviews to the schools I applied to until January (and I got in), so there is still definitely hope. Although I bet you know that now, being as you have an interview at Dartmouth.

Good luck to all of you reapplicants. I'm pulling for you all. 🙂

Thanks for your post, Tiki! It's reassuring to know that ppl with my stats do get in - even with late interviews! 😀

And, thanks BlueMagPie! I am VERY happy about Dartmouth. Just wish Maryland would show me some love... But, hey, I can't have everything at the same time, right? I have to be patient! 😉

Congrats Mathilda!! You made it!! You're gonna be a DOCTOR!! That's awesome!

Sorry to hear about the rejection, Dr.AYY ... That's their loss anyway! They don't know they missed a great applicant. :luck:

As far as I'm concerned, just got a "hold" email from Albany. Oh well... At least, I'm not rejected yet!

Keep me updated!

Congrats Mathilda!!! Penn State is a great school. I loved it when I interviewed there. If you don't mind me asking, when did you interview? I interviewed on November 6th, and since it's been so long, I'm thinking it's not going to be an acceptance. But you got one, which is so wonderful.

And congrats to KiKat and Dr. AYY on the interviews. At a lot of schools, getting an interview is the hardest part, so you have your foot in the door now. I wish you and all of the other interviewers the best of luck.

Venting on a totally different topic. I've been substitute teaching during my year off. I've been teaching a lot of chemistry (which is what my degree is in), and I have had a really great group of kids. On some days I think, I've always been really good at teaching; maybe it wouldn't be such a bad profession. But I was subbing for someone else today and the kids were so horrible that they seriously almost made me cry. On days like this, I am glad I am going into medicine.

I'm with you! I've been teaching french for the past 3 years (not my major, native speaker) and I really hate it sometimes. I had a great group of students for the first two years, but this last year has been horrible! 😱 I'm almost praying that nobody will sign up for my class next semester! And, yes, I'm glad that I won't be doing that for the rest of my life! <fingers crossed> 🙂

Yeah Mathilda! Yeah Kitkat!

The Buffalo interview went well, I think. I really liked what I saw and the people I met. We go to see the anatomy lab while it was in session, as opposed to just seeing the empty lab like most tours. I haven't taken anatomy before, so that was the first time I have ever seen a cadaver being worked on. It was cool. If I get in it will be a tough choice.

I haven't seen one acceptance to Albany yet on SDN. Who are they looking for? I am interviewing there next month, and that makes me nervous. Everyone seems to be waitlisted or put on hold.

Congrats again to everyone with all your interviews and acceptances. We are rock stars.

Hi, everyone:

Congrats to those getting interview invites, and congrats on the good Buffalo interview, ma-bas.

I'm still hitting 're-fresh' on my yahoo acct. way too many times/day. I have yet to hear from 5/7 schools I applied to. I submitted the secondaries for 2 of them in August (Downstate and Einstein), so I'm getting really annoyed!! I hope that the holidays will allow me to relax and focus on other stuff.

Hope everyone is doing well -- i.e. not as neurotic/obsessed as I am. Good luck,

BH

Hope everyone is doing well now that the Hoidays approach. Though this waiting is driving me insane, as with Bunsen, I have yet to hear from most of my schools eventhough i have been "complete" there for months is seems. It was nice having interviews already but those just made it seem more frustrating going back to the waiting game, b/c for a couple of days it seemed like I was doing something about this med school thing. I just hope with being on break the other schools have time to get to my app and get hopefully other interview invites. Oh well, its the journey that makes us appreciate the destination more I guess. Good luck to all in the holiday season and next year.
Happy Festivus from the rest of us

Hey guys,

And so it seems that we are all waiting for .....something.....I haven't heard a peep from my other schools. I'm still waiting to hear something from my first interview. I'm not sure anything will come before Christmas, or even after Christmas. Perhaps if I set my mind to think that I won't hear anything at all until Jan then my perspective would be different. I'm tired of racing home after working all day to check the mail and find....nothing. I'm so freaking tired of getting catalogues (sp?), junk mail and even Christmas cards  I'm even passing them over to look for envelopes with school names on them. Ah the drama. In the meantime, congrats to all those who recently were accepted and went to interviews. I'm sure the activity will pick up over the next few months. You know, once we are all on the other side, we will probably look back and laugh at how anxious we were over this compared to Board scores and Match lists  Well, everyone find something else to do and enjoy the holidays.

Peace and Patience,
mrsmac

Hi everyone,

This is my first time on the reapplicant section(didn't see it b4). although I have been reading all your encouraging support for one another all night. I am in Davis, CA. Graduated from UC Davis in Dec. 2003. Well, I got my first interview at Drexel U in Philadelphia coming up in January. so am trying to control my jumpy stomach by keeping busy w/ my full time job and gathering as much info as possible to prep for the interview. I check out interview feedback and this particular question is commonly ask at the school: How will you (the interviewee) fix or improve the current health care system? can anyone refer me to a source where i can get detail info concerning improving the system or if anyone has a brilliant solution to the health care problem, I will really appreciate your contribution. Thank you everyone for supporting one another; this thread of ours is just awesome 😀. Take care everyone, and have a happy holidays!

Hey guys,

First of all, welcome to our new posters. Well, I received a letter from Meharry yesterday stating that I'm in their "acceptance range". That's basically saying that I'm within the pool of applicants they select from to fill spots for the class! Therefore, I have not been rejected  After interviewing, Meharry either sends out these "acceptance range" letters or rejection letters. So at a minimum, I'm on the waitlist there. Now I can enjoy the holiday somewhat. I just have to make sure they know that I'm still interested in the school. So, that's the lastest from here. I'd stay longer, but I've got to get back to work  You guys have a wonderful holiday and stay safe!

Peace and Patience,
mrsmac

woo hoo! That's great news. Sounds like you're going to get an acceptance there soon. I'm sure you'll get more interviews before you have to decide anyway. Enjoy your holidays and relax a little if you can. My family and I are heading west to my mom's for XMas. I just know I'm going to be checking my email from there too!!

Happy holidays to everyone & more good luck to come in 2005!! 👍

what up guys. im a reapplicant. last year i was waitlisted at downstate hopin to get in and waited till the last possible day and didnt work out. this year hasd been better for me. had 5 interviews, 9 rejecetions, 6 pre-interview hold and still waiting to hear from 18 more schools. and not to mention of the 5 schools i've interviewed at, i have been waitlisted at 2 of them and still have to hear from the other three. this is a huge struggle. im back in the waitlist game.. and hopefully i wont be waiting through the summer like last year. anyway good luck to the rest of u.

Welcome to all of our new posters. I hope you find this thread helpful, hopeful, and just plain fun.

Merry Christmas to everyone, old and new. I hope you enjoy a few days free of med school worries.

So heard back from one of my interviews and unfortunately have been wait listed at one and the otehr said "you are amongst acceptable applicants but are not in this months acceptable applicants and will be held for future monthly considerations." So I cant decide if this is good or bad. I mean wait list is not a rejection, but damnit I thought I was in there. Got another interview for this month at my #1 school so am currently gearing up for it. Hope everyones holiday went well and good luck to all.

Hey DocSean,

I would say that at this point you are still in good shape. A waitlist in not a rejection (at this point). On the other school, it appears that that are comparing you on a monthly basis to those they interview. That's not necessarily bad either. I would think that as long as you continue to express to them your interest in the school, that might help. Good luck on your next interview. This could be the one. Sometimes I wonder, "is anything about this process going to be easy?" My goodness, even opening an envelope is nervewracking (sp). I'm still waiting for my other interviews, so at least you have your foot in the door. Just don't let them forget about you. Good luck.

Happy New Year Folks!!

Remember to drink/act responsibly!!!!!!

Hey, everyone:

Sounds like more waiting for many of us. I have one interview done from early Dec. that I'm still awaiting word on.

I did get some good news while I was visiting family for the holiday -- I got two new interview invites. One from Downstate (my #1 choice) for mid-Feb. and from NYU, which I wasn't expecting b/c I applied right before their deadline. The NYU one is in a week and a half, yikes!! I have a Stony Brook interview the next day. I'm very glad to have these interviews, but getting nervous. I feel like I really need to prepare.

I hope everyone is hanging in there. Just a minute of the news coverage of the recent S. Asian tradegy makes me feel so very lucky.

Happy New Year!!

BH

Congrats BH! I know you were waiting for Downstate and Stony Brook, that's awsome.

Happy New Year Buddies! May 2005 be the year we all start med school.

Hey everyone,

I spent almost two weeks without access to the internet and I was going insane! I really am addicted to sdn! lol 😉 Hope everybody had a nice break!

Congrats to all of you who got good news during the holidays. 👍

May this new year bring success and happiness to all of us struggling to get into med school. 🙂
