Hello there buddies!

Can you believe it's October??!!! Things must be getting pretty busy around here because some of us have been a little "absent" 🙂 Anyway, I am beginning to find myself pretty busy (as if Bath and Body Works is stressful ). However, I'm planning a romantic birthday celebration for my husband this month, so we are heading to Cincinnati the weekend after the MCAT scores come out! (that is hoping they come out on the 15th) It could be a great celebration or a time of mourning! I am so ready for these scores to come back. In the meantime, get this...I applied a month or so ago for a grant writer position at the University where I'm applying to med school. I never heard anything from them so I figured they'd hired someone. Well they called me today to set up an interview for that job on the 14th of this month! Can you believe it? I could actually be working full time at the university I am applying to. Maybe I could make some inroads with the admissions officers there  I just thought that was interesting, especially since my scores come out when...the 15th!! God, this is torture!

Anyway, enough about me. Congrats to ma-bas again. Our first acceptance! Also, DoctorFunk and Jetskigirl have been busy interviewing. Good luck with that. As for me, I'm waiting on those #$%# MCAT scores! Can you tell I'm getting impatient? Alright, I'm off for now and everyone keep us posted on how you are doing. I believe that after the middle of the month, this thread will really get busy! Good luck everyone with MCAT and interviews.

Peace,
mrsmac

Hi, everyone:

Just wanted to say CONGRATS!! to ma-bas for getting in -- way to go!!! I've never heard of anyone getting an acceptance this early, and so quickly. You obvisously impressed them big time!

All my secondaries are in. I'm just waiting -- along with many of you -- for October 14. I'm starting to get serious nerves.

Congrats to all those with new jobs, interviews, etc. I hope to have good news to share soon.

Hugs,

BH

I am also getting a little nervous about oct 15. I submitted all my secondaries except for 3 and have yet to receive any interviews. I might not even check my MCAT scores because I know that it doesn't make a difference in the admission process rather I know it or not. Heck...I think I am just too chicken to find out my score...maybe after I get 3 interview invite...I'd have the courage to log on to THX and check them

sdnstud, I think it would take more courage for me to not look at my MCAT scores than to look at them, but I think it would be really interesting to go into an interview not knowing them.

Last Friday, I got an interview invite from Jefferson in Philidelphia. I decided to call Penn State and see if I was going to get an interview from them so I could schedule it at the same time. Well, Monday was completely hectic, work for 8 hours and school for 5, so I had no time to call Penn State. When I got home from school Monday night, I had a letter from Penn State inviting me to interview. It was so strange.

Another congrats to ma-bas. To all of the August MCATers, hang in there; it's amost score time. And I hope that the interview fairy visits everyone real soon.

Hey thanks again. And congrats to you and DrFunk on all your interviews!
I hope all of you that are waiting on your MCAT scroes are pleasantly surprised come next week...

Hey everyone,

Well I didn't think I would be signed onto SDN the week MCAT scores came out because I thought it would get me thinking too much about the scores. Nonetheless, here I am, patiently being anxious awaiting the AAMC websites to change to the "Scores are up" saying. So I thought what better to do than hop on SDN instead of wasting my time hitting refresh every 30 seconds for the next 8 hours.

I hope that everyone is doing well, congrats to everyone on Interviews and acceptances!! I can only imagine how you feel, and one day hope to have the same euphoric feeling of "wow, someone thinks I am good enough for their medical school" I have no idea how I am going to react if I get in. It has gone thru my head sooo many times... like who is going to be the first to know besides my parents. Last year I imagined interuppting a profs class to let them know I had succeeded. Now it will just be be phone calls and emails since I'm away from all those who gave me such amazing support last year.

Wow. I really didn't mean to go into that, but I guess that's what happens when you are waiting for something thats not coming for at least 8 hours.

I really hope that you all are doing well and coping with this stressful time better than me. One day we will be on other forums in SDN - like the strait up Allopathic (none of that pre-allopathic) or asking each other questions about our rotations in the other forums.

Good luck to you guys!!! I'm gonna go hit that refresh buttons a few more times

Hey there guys,

I guess I should begin by saying that I feel like I could share anything with you guys. So here it goes...I got my scores.

Some improvement but I'm a little dumbfounded as to what it all means.

Composite: 27O
PS 7
BS 8
Verbal: 12

Can you believe it? A freaking 12? I'd love to disperse that to my other sections. So, considering I'm not applying to Ivy League schools I feel okay. Not great, but okay. My first composite was a 21 O.
Any thoughts? I hope that everyone else is happy with their scores. Looking forward to hearing how you guys are faring. I'm going out tonight to get some hot wings and a strong drink. This will be my last attempt at this crazy test. Good luck all. Talk to you soon.

Peace,
mrsmac

No more MCAT...ever again. Congrats to Mrsmac and all those who got their scores back and did better than last time.

My adrenaline receptors were quite busy this afternoon. I heard that the scores would go live at 2 pm. I could barely keep a few bites of lunch down.

Here's what I got: 32T total; PS: 11, VR: 11, Bio: 10. I couldn't be happier. I knew I did better, but wasn't sure by how much. In August 2003 I scored a 26R (9, 9, 8).

Mrsmac: Your improvement is big (21 v. 27), which impresses ADCOMs. You should have no problem getting several interviews (assuming you applied to 10+ schools), so just impress the heck out of em at the interview. Plus, I think the VR score is the most important to schools. Way to go!!!

Everyone - wow for me 2 posts in a 2 day period is a lot.

So there I was frantically checking all last night, and then giving up around 1AM. I get back from class at 3PM go to the AAMC webpage which reads MCAT scores will be posted at 2PM. I don't think I'm superstitiuos, but I asked my roommate if I could use his computer since it was this computer that gave me my 27P (8V9P10B) last time. So I went to his room, and found my scores. Physical - didn't change, another 9. Bio - up a point to 11, and my writing stayed the same.

So now you're wondering "How did he do on Verbal?" Well by an act of God, (I think thats about all I can describe it as such) I went up 3 points to get an 11 on the verbal. (Makes for a 31P overall) I am so happy right now, and am now anxiously awaiting those couple of "we're waiting on your MCAT results before we do anything else with your application" schools.

Congrats to all who took the MCATs!!!!!!

Congrats Waitman!

I am soooo proud of you! I thought you had disappeared from our membership 🙂 Anyway, thanks for the encouraging words. I guess my scores are an improvement. I'll try to do well when the interviews come. Enjoy it man, you deserve to really celebrate!

Peace,
mrsmac

Congrats to all of you on your improved scores! I'm doing a happy dance for all 3 of you...

It sounds like congratulations are in order for all Reapp Buddies that retook the MCAT this August. Everyone raised their score, which is no easy feat from the sounds of things over in the Pre-Allo forum! So congratulations all...I hope that the wait for your scores proves to be the most frustrating aspect of this process.

As far as news from me, I received a "big letter" yesterday from Medical College of Wisconsin. I knew approximately when word from the school would arrive via mail, so I have been absolutely crazy over the last few days waiting for it to arrive. When it finally came my only reaction was a huge smile that really still hasn't left my face. I called my parents, grandparents, and sister and gave them the good news and chatted. It was really nice.

That's enough from me. I hope that interviews and the incoming secondaries go well for all my Reapplication Buddies! I have a very strong feeling that their will be many more acceptances coming out of this group!!!

Wow, congrats!! Another very early acceptance. I've never heard of people getting acceptances so early in the game, and 2 from our Reapp group. Yipee!!

Celebrate and enjoy...and keep your fingers crossed for the rest of us!!

BH

Just wanted to say "congrats" to DrFunk! 👍 👍 👍 😀 😀 I believe that this group is going to be full of new medical students. Man, 2 acceptances and all so early. You and ma-bas give us hope.

mrsmac

Congrats, Dr. Funk! You must be so relieved! If I get in this time around, I'm not sure I'll actually be able to compute that information, I think I'll go into shock. 🙄

Anyway, that's so awesome. 🙂

wooooooooohoooooooooooooooooo DR FUNK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Into med school and its October 13th... you got 10 months to relax now!!!!!!!!!

BlueMagpie - I think shock would only begin to describe the feeling.

I really do hope that we all get in this year and we can allllll celebrate together. I'm still excited about my MCATs and probably will be for at least 2 more months - if I get into a med school between now and then, I might have a heart attack at all the excitement.

Congrats again Dr. Funk... you're something we can all aspire too!!!!!! woooohoooooo

My score went up 5 pts! from a 22 to a 27. I got 9s in all sections. I know it's not a great score, but I was happy that I didn't have a huge discrepancy among the sections. I just hope I'll get some interviews...

Well, I had my interview at Iowa last week. I think it went okay, but my interviewers were new (hadn't interviewed before) so the trainer lady had to sit in on my interview, which was a little distracting. And, I could tell they were new to this because they had a really hard time pulling things I had said from the standardized question portion and asking more about them later. It wasn't quite as conversational as I would have hoped. So, now the waiting game begins. I could be admitted anytime from now until March. They told us that the adcom meets once at the end of October, 2 times in November, and every week in January. They also said that if we don't hear anything by the 3rd week in January, that we should consider ourselves to be held until the final pool phase. I'm glad it's over, but the waiting is going to suck. Hoping to hear from more schools soon. Best of luck everyone!
Cheers.

Hey guys,

Just dropping a line. Kmjannie, sorry to hear about the less than desired interview. I'm not sure what to think about that. I haven't heard anything back from my school yet. I'm complete at all of them, so, I understand about the waiting, but at least you've got an interview out of the way. Anyway, I'm going to Cincy this weekend to help my hubby celebrate turning 30, so I probably won't post anymore until next week some time. I hope to hear about the other members and their interviews. Hey other August MCATers, have you heard anything yet? At least we are all waiting together.

Peace,
mrsmac

Hi fellow reapplicants!

I've been pretty busy so I havn't been around the boards for over a month. Let's see, I relocated to another state, defended my thesis, started a new job, trying to finish my thesis revisions and my last 4 secondaries.

I'm getting so discouraged because my prof didn't complete his letter till last week and so many schools had already sent acceptances! Ugh, I guess I shouldn't sweat things out of my control.

I hope to get some interviews, but it seems like I'm way behind! Anyone else not complete at several schools?

Nina

Nina -- i know how u must feel. though my professors were for the most part on time, the premed committee itself took almost 2 months to compile all the letters and send them out. I had most of my secondaries completed by the end of July..... the LORs arrived at the med schools at the end of September. I am still not complete at one last school, but I'm fine with all the other ones.

I strongly advise you to send a friendly reminder to your professor. He/she needs to send that LOR in asap. Last year I was not complete until the end of December, and I received no interview invites. This year I have so far at least one.

my bad.... I just reread your post. your professor *did* finally send in the LOR.

though the earlier the better, I think you're fine. As long as you are complete by the end of october.

Hey everyone~

Congrats to mrsmac, Bunsen Honeydew, waitman, and cattywoman on the new, improved MCAT scores. I'm so impressed with this group. And DrFunk, a big letter! I am so happy for you and completely jealous.

I've been checking the mail religiously, but nothing has come yet. I hate Wednesdays when I have to leave for school before the mail comes. The first schools I interviewed at are the ones that said 6-10 weeks, so it still could be a while. The school I was at last weekend said 3 weeks, so I might hear from them before the school I interviewed with first.

Since I was last on, I've been to Mayo and Creighton. Unfortunately, I fell in love with Mayo and don't think I have a chance of getting in there. But I did have a really funny/aggravating/whoknows interview moment. I did my research in psychology and I was interviewing with a psychologist.

Him: Oh, I see you worked under Richard Lanyon.
Me: Yes, I did.
Him: He's an interesting guy.
Me: (speechless, unsure if that is good or bad)
Him: Interesting is an interesting word.

And then he just continues with the interview, like it was nothing. And I have this look on my face that can only be described as dumbfounded. Oh well.

Good luck to everyone. I hope the interviews and acceptances keep rolling in. And I hope you are all free from "interesting" moments.
