Hey Buddies,

Wow! It is already September. Can anyone believe it? I know that this is the time when interviews start rolling in. I believe one of our members already has an interview. 👍 I look forward to hearing about all the interviews that we are going to. For some of us (me included), we are on hold until our MCAT scores come in. We'll have to wait another 4-6 weeks. Thankfully, all my secondaries are completed and my letters of recommendation should be sent out my the 15th of this month. Therefore, ideally, my applcations should be complete when my scores arrive. We'll see how it goes. Other than that things are a little slow this way. Let's hope that things speed up in the next few weeks. I would like to ask if everyone wouldn't mind listing where they are applying. Someone mentioned last month that if some of us are applying to the same schools and interview at the same time, we could "meet for drinks". Just a question...no pressure.

Here is my short list:

Wright State University
Meharry Medical College
Howard University

Yes, that is it. Three little schools. For those of you applying to 10-30 schools, my hat is off to you. My husband is in the military, so I have to apply where he could possibly be stationed. That kind of sucks, but I have to go where the larger paycheck goes

Peace

Hey all!

Just a quick update on my status so far...I have all of my secondaries in except one (which should arrive shortly). I was rejected by one school presecondary, but other than that things are looking good. I even received an interview at Medical College of Wisconsin (which is my first choice as of now), so I'll be interviewing there on October 1!

I'll try to cobble together a list of the schools I applied to. Mostly they were confined to schools in the Midwest (where both my fiance and I would like to live) and limited to a number of applications I could afford. Here goes:

University of Minnesota (state school)
University of Minnesota-Duluth (state school)
Medical College of Wisconsin (interview)
University of Wisconsin (rejected presecondary)
University of Iowa
Creighton
Loyola
Rosalind Franklin
Northwestern
University of South Dakota (lived in state for 15 years)

So far, so good as far as I'm concerned. I expect at least two more interviews at my state school, so I think that gives me a decent chance for an acceptance. Here's hoping! Anyways, I hope that everyone is keeping their chins up during this humbling and exhausting process, and I sure hope to see some of you on the interview trail this fall/winter!
:luck:

Like I've said before, I was able to apply to a lot of schools this year thanks to the grace of my parents. I received secondaries to all 21 schools (including UCSF, which was the only school I didn't get a secondary from last year). I still have 4 to finish; because I have been so exhausted, I haven't worked on them for 2 weeks. Oops.

Right now, I'm sitting at one rejection (Pritzker), and three interviews (Georgetown, Wake Forest, and Mayo). Because the trips cost me between $500-$1000 each, I'm hoping I get accepted early and can withdraw my applicaiton from all of my lower choice schools. Lets hope that happens.

In other news, I had an interview last week and I finally have a job. I will be substitute teaching for the next year, assuming that I pass the backgroun check through the Deptartment of Justice and FBI this week. after four months of looking for a job, I finally have one. Yay!! I'll have money again.

I hope everyone had a great Labor Day and I hope we all have great news this month.

Yeah Dr. Funk and jetskigirl! Congrats on the interviews. Let's hope we all get in early somewhere to take the pressure off, and save us some time and $ from travelling all over the country. I am still not complete everywhere, and got only 1 more secondary done over the long weekend, so I was a bad girl. I'm trying to finish VCU at work today, between patients, and then I think I will only have 7 :scared: more. Ugh.

Hi fellow second-timers:

I'm half way through my secondaries (total of six). Five of these are schools to which I'm re-applying. They include:

Mt. Sinai
Einstein
NY Medical College
SUNY Downstate
SUNY Stony Brook
Columbia

I'm obviously only applying to NYC schools. I accidentally missed NYU on the AMCAS app, so I can't apply now...but suspect I wouldn't even get an interview there.

I was waitlisted this year at Stony Brook and Einstein (only schools at which I interviewed). I'm hoping for Downstate, mainly because of $$ and b/c I live in Brooklyn and don't want to move. My husband is finishing up school and we have a 3-year old. For me, my MCATs are what held me back (26R) -- I was told that at both schools. So, I'm not too optimistic about getting interviews until my scores come in. GOOD luck to those that have them, and please report back.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that my scores improve by at least 2 points. Hope everyone who's also waiting gets good news come mid October! 🙂)

I'm hoping to bang out the rest of my secondaries by this weekend. Good luck to everyone and keep the faith!!!

You can designate (add) any medical school to AMCAS at any time, you just need to pay $30 and recertify your app (takes about 5 minutes).

Hey guys,

Sorry for being AWOL for awhile, things have been so busy. I finally got a job...Bath and Body Works!!! This is perfect! I wanted to stay away for science for a minute. It's very unstressful and I get a great discount. I definitely need the stress relief products because waiting for these darn MCAT scores is KILLING me. Don't we have about a month or so left? I'm starting to get a little restless here. Has anyone gone on any interviews yet? Have anymore been scheduled for anyone? I hope to be added to the list once my scores come back. My strategy is to think that my scores are horrible so that when I see them I won't go into cardiac arrest. Hope all is well for everyone and I hope all the hurricanes aren't affecting you guys. I've got family in Alabama so I've got to check on them.

Peace,
mrsmac

I got a job too! I am a Research Assistant! Woo-hoo! I am so excited -- excited that I don't have to ask mom and dad for $$, that is 🙄 🙄

Cheers,
KJ

Hey everyone:

Congrats to those who are newly employed! (I actually feel like I may need to join your ranks soon b/c my boss is driving me up a wall these days!!).

I have completed 5 of 6 of my secondaries. I had a phone confab the other day with the assistant dean of admissions at one of the schools to which I was waitlisted (this is something they offer students on the wl if you don't get it). She was really nice and encouraging; she actually told me that I was in a really good position on the wl, and that if it was another year, I might have gotten in :-((. Anyway, she agreed that my MCATs were low for the school and was encouraging that I made the effort to take them again.

I'm also starting to get seriously restless on the MCAT front. I want my dang scores already!!!! I've already decided that I can't see them for the first time myself. I think I'm going to have my husband look them up for me b/c I'll be too worked up. Last time, I checked them by myself late at night, and it wasn't pretty (picture me on the floor sobbing...).

In the meantime, I'm taking an epi course at Columbia which rocks!! It's really wonderful, which is encouraging since this is my back-up plan so far.

Good luck to everyone and hang in there. Get those secondaries in for those who haven't (including moi!).

Hugs,

BH

Woohoo! Got an interview at the University of Iowa! Have to call them this morning and set it up. (It's 6:30 am here...I have strep throat and can't sleep).

Cheers all.

Congrats on the interview!!! Take care of that throat. Keep us posted as to when it is.

Peace,

Just got off the phone with admissions at Iowa, and my interview date is October 15. Doctor Funk, have you heard anything from Iowa yet? Anyone else?

That's awesome, congrats! 🙂 I have an interview on the same exact day (although somewhere else). It's my only one so far. Is Iowa one of your top choices?

First off, congratulations Jannie!!! I'm sure it feels good to get that first interview on the table! I haven't heard from Iowa yet, though I've been complete there for at least a month. Maybe the interview invites that they have offered are mostly in-state people so far? Are you an Iowa resident?

Bluemagpie - yes, iowa is my top choice. location, location, location (and $).

DocFunk - yeah, i am in state, so maybe they haven't sent out the invites for out of state yet. my app was complete on 9/20, and i got the invite the same day. best of luck with your MCW interview!

I interviewed on Friday at UMDNJ-SOM. Today I got the phone call that I have been accepted. It is a truly exciting day. I don't think it has fully hit me yet. It doesn't help that not 20 minutes after the phone call, a 3 y.o. took a dump in my office, kinda put a damper on things.

No but seriously, I am so happy. I am going to withdraw some of my applications that are a bit farther in distance fronm my home, both Allo and Osteo, b/c I really would prefer to live at home, or easily commute for the week and come home on the weekends, and this school would allow me to do that. I told my boss today that I'll be leaving in July. How crazy is that!?

Congratulations on the acceptance ma-bas! It's great to see that our group has been so successful in the early-goings of this application season. I only hope that my future colleagues in medical school are half as supportive as all of you!

Thanks DoctorFunk!

You guys are all amazing, and very supportive. As a non-trad, I don't have any real live pre-med buddies, so I really appreciate it.

Best of luck to everyone. I am putting out my good acceptance vibes accross the buddies network!

CONGRATS!     👍 👍

Wow, our first official accepted member! I'm so excited for you. The rest of us will be waiting to join you on the other side. DoctorFunk, thanks for the kind words about this group. I had no idea when I started this that we'd actually stick together this far. You guys have been great. Ma-Bas, don't forget to check in on us every now and then and give us some encouragement. I guess now you have been officially "released" from this group 😀

Three cheers for Ma-Bas!!

mrsmac

Thanks Mrs Mac! Don't worry, I will be all of your biggest cheerleader. I can't leave the love fest now.

It has been a week with no buddy post. What's up folks? How's everyone doing?

Getting ready to go on my first annual Midwestern traveling salesmen trip myself. I will be interviewing at MCW on Friday, then spending the weekend with my family in Duluth before interviewing at UofMN-Duluth on Monday. Busy, busy, busy! 🙂

Congrats ma-bas! That is so exciting. Hopefully we all have stories like that soon. And for all of those adcoms reading this, wasn't it nice that they let her know right away rather than making her wait for 8-12 weeks?

Congrats also to people getting interviews, the last step towards acceptances.

I just got back from a trip back east with two interviews. I started substitute teaching lst week and I love it, one of the easiest jobs ever. This weekend is my nephews first birthday, next weekend I'll be in Minnesota at Mayo, and the following weekend I'll be at Creighton. The weekend after that I'll be in Phoenix to take the PCAT. So for the month of October, I have one weekend that I'm currently spending at home. However, that is still 4 weeks away, so plans may change further.
