I have heard that you boost your chances if you claim to be economically disadvantaged and you have recieved FAP. I received FAP this year so can i apply as economically disadvantaged even tho i didnt apply that way last year? would that seem wierd ? or shud i just leave it?
Also, when i put my DO applications in, how should i change my PS to make it more DO oreinted? what does a DO school want to hear on ur personal statement?

This might be better addressed in pre-osteo forum, but an impression I had is they like folks who want to address prevention more, and prefer a more holistic approach. You'll have to decide if you want to avow enthusiasm for the "hands-on" philosophy of manipulative medicine.

Some DO schools require shadowing a DO, but others don't care if its MD or DO, so plan ahead for this

i'm not sure about the economically disadvantaged status. i think i qualify-- with getting financial aid throughout undergrad and having a family income of under $40,000 for most of my life-- but i was too unsure to mark it down. it may be helpful at certain schools though. i would call financial aid offices and see what they say. i'm guessing most of them will say if you feel you are disadvantaged, then mark it down. as long as you can explain why you feel this way, if asked, i think it's perfectly fine.

as for the PS: DO schools, just like MD schools, want to hear why you want to pursue medicine. i think if you haven't explored OMM or shadowed a DO, you should not try to cater your essay to what you think they want to hear. the adcoms are smart, they know that lots of DO applicants apply to both MD and DO schools, and i don't think you have to be 110% into the osteopathic philosophy that is marketed. but, for your own benefit, i would advise you to shadow a DO. i know of several people who have matriculated with little to no DO shadowing, but it can only help your application to have taken that step. good luck!
