Hello,
I am in a dilemma. I received two interview invites for this cycle, but I have found out for sure that I will not be getting into medical school and I want to find a few post bacc programs to apply to. I live in California so I am most likely going to apply to all the schools here including the consortium. I also want to apply out of state too. Here are my stats:
cGPA: 3.6 (rounded down)
sGPA: 3.5 (rounded down)
MCAT: 26 (2nd try)
Lots community service and leadership experience
2+ years of research
Medical Brigades
etc.
I'm just not sure what post bacc is the right one to apply for someone in my situation and with my stats. I was also thinking about just taking a kaplan course and retrying the mcat again, while doing research so I'm not idle with my time.

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Can't help you with post bac stuff but if you rounded up your GPA listed above, you could use a boost especially since you're a CA resident. With your current application, you were prolly a long shot for MD and a reasonable (greater than 50%) chance at DO schools. I would recommend retaking the mcat ONLY if you can be absolutely sure you will score a 30+ equivalent on the new exam.

Apply to all DO schools with your current application as those will be your best shots. Applying md is likely too much of a reach unless you are URM. Getting a 30+ will give you a fighters chance at MD. Getting a 4.0 in post bac/masters will give you a more solid chance if combined with a 30+

I rounded down for the gpa and I am a URM. I'm still going to apply MD. If I was able to get two interview invites I think I'm in close range. I will apply to DOs next time though. Thanks for the insight.

Being URM will help, statistically speaking. Apply to URM specific schools as well if you hadn't already. Make sure you do improve bc 2 II isn't much to secure a spot so you will have to show adcoms that you have improved and reflected in your last application. Good luck!

How do you find which schools are URM specific? Just research all the schools? I also applied late which may have been another reason why I didnt get as many. I am thinking about doing a medical scribe or research position and restudying for the MCAT and applying next. I will apply to postbaccs just for another option.

Google historically black medical colleges, I know Howard is one and there must be others. If you are fluent in Spanish you can also apply to Puerto Rican schools which are fully ACGME accredited.

applying late will also hinder your chances, aim to have everything the first day possible (both primary and secondaries). I'm not sure what would be more beneficial, a post bac or research/scribe but being productive and improving yourself as a person and applicant is priority #1. Come up with a solid strategic game plan from all angles (timing, finances, applying broadly, beefing up your application, etc). Lots of people have gone throug similar situations as you and sdn has a lot of archived info that others have asked and answered so there's a wealth of information available

Skip the post bacc and just retake the MCAT. That is your weakness and is what is holding you back.

I think im going to do research or a medical scribe job this year (continue where I left off with volunteering as well) and do a kaplan course toward the end of the year. The beginning of next year I will take the mcat and apply in June of next year.

Excellent plan. That's pretty much what I did and had great success my second gap year. Good luck.
