Hello All,

I was an applicant this cycle, and after applying to several schools and receiving many interviews did not get into any programs. Below I list some details about my application

School: Top Canadian School (US Citizen)
Major: Double major in psychology and economics
GPA: 3.9-4.0
MCAT: 518
ECs: Varsity Sport and President of a fairly large Club
Research Experience: Worked in several labs including spending multiple summers paid full time at a top hospital in the United States. I have also worked for multiple professors at my school
Clinical Experience: Participated in Doctors Without Borders type work and volunteered around 100 hours at a hospital

I believe the problem with my application were the following:
1. Applying late (after September)
2. Need to work on my interview skills

During my gap year I am planning on scribing full time. One of my questions is does the location of where I do my scribe work affect my application? For example if I scribe in a particular state (say NY) does it help me get into a New York medical school more than if I scribe in say Connecticut or New Jersey? I would appreciate any thoughts you have on this question

Additionally, I plan to have a publication next year and I will apply in June rather than September. I will also work on my interview skills and have another year of good grades. What would you rate my odds of getting into:

- a top 10 medical school
- top 20
- top 30
- top 50

Also is there anything else you would advise I do to prepare for next cycle.

I appreciate all your help. Thank you very much

It looks like you have a bit of clinical volunteering but I'd get involved with some non clinical things too to show off your altruistic side.

Your ECs in general look a bit week. I'd beef them up as much as you can, apply early, and work on your interview skills.

Also I don't think the location of where you scribe matters at all. You may be able to use it as a tie to that area but that's about it.
