So since my first rejections this is what I have done:
1)Improved MCAT from a 27 to a 33 in 1 attempt.
2)Got a job full time as a clinical scribe in an ED and ICU setting.
3)Continued a long standing volunteer position.
4)Will have a weak publishing. I'm revising a clinical scribe book my company publishes.

Does this seem like enough of an improvement? My GPA is very average, but my ECs are strong I'd say, good mix of long standing clinical exposure+community stuff and student body. Along with research.

What is your GPA? It is more than likely the most important factor in this equation and the one you omitted. - Admissionstomedicine

Hello

A 27 to a 33 is a major jump which is impressive. Make sure that you have a well put together package including an amazing personal statement and you should be fair game for this upcoming application cycle. -Admissions to Medicine

Great work improving your app after an unsuccessful cycle! Your new ECs and hopefully some new stellar LOR definitely strengthen your app. The low sGPA will still hold you back a bit (have you taken any new science courses or have an upward GPA at all?), but the solid MCAT improvement is great.

Why do you think you didn't get in the first time? Any interviews at all? Apply top heavy? Any feedback from schools that rejected you?

What are your other ECs?

Do you have a school list in mind?

I think I didn't get in because of my very mediocre GPA and low MCAT. I had 1 interview at a state school and I didn't apply heavy, but only applied to about 9 schools. I did request feed back from 1 school and they mentioned my academics but also complimented me on my EC.

My ECs include 5+ years of CNA work in a nursing home, vice pres pre med club 1 1/2 years(a lot of random little volunteer work through this, kind of just clump it together), 2+ years special olympics coaching, 200+ hours shadowing, 1 year of research that didn't get published but I made an abstract over, couple other random little organizations like tri beta and now my clinical scribe position and the publishing.

I don't have a full school list in mind, I know I'll apply to both my state programs, but I need to look into individual private schools in areas where I'd want to live that I stand a good chance. I'm applying DO this year also so I don't need a long list of MD schools to look at because honestly if I don't get into my in state schools, which is where I'd want to go anyways, I don't think I'd get in anywhere else really.
