Hi there, I am reapplying to dental school for 2010 cycle. I was in the process of editing my personal statement and was wondering as to how much does the PS need to be changed. Should it be written from scratch or just slightly changed to include my current experience and future plans. My previous PS was pretty good, but over the last year I have been working at a place that is far from dentistry (in order to keep a job and saveup some money), Meanwhile, I have been studying to retake my DAT...So there hasn't been much of a meaningful progress towards dentistry...I am interested in reapplying this year but I am not sure how to present this unrelated experience in my PS.

So, I would appreciate any of your advice, even if its not much. I know this may be difficult question to ask.
but thanks anywayz.

Good luck to all who are reapplying also.

I'm a re-applicant from the '07 entering class.

I would say at the very least, add in the new job/experiences.
I rewrote mine from scratch as I had a lot of new things to write about. Some schools will not keep your old application (check w/ each school) but I think you should consider making major changes, I believe it will only make for a better ps.

Good luck

are you still the same person? did application of last year changed your views on things, did you get a chance to visit-interview at schools and discuss with any dental adcoms what was lacking in you application last year...
Being reapplicant might only help as you sure proving your desire for dentistry and your tenacity... question is will it show your maturity and lessons you've learned
I've been told at least one Dean of Admission personally reads every applicant's PS...
