I applied this current cycle, but I really was awfully naive and misinformed. I had been told that applying in September was no big deal...so I waited and didn't submit and have everything complete on my primary until the end of August. My stats were ho hum...3.75 GPA, 29Q mcat, tons and tons of shadowing like everybody else, and some various other stuff thrown in there.

I interviewed at South Alabama on Nov 17 and am still on hold there. I interviewed at University of Kentucky on Feb 7 (a week or so after the class filled...they were interviewing for alternate spots) and absolutely fell in love with it. Everything about the curriculum and the city and the school was what I was looking for. So...here's my deal. I'm going through the bio, gen chem and physics books from the berkeley review and taking the mcat again in mid to late may.

For my 29Q I didn't study a single bit so I'm hoping that cracking through those books for the next couple months will knock the rust off my memory and get me into the 30's. I completed an internship with 360 hours of shadowing time with three different docs, so that's another extra to this years application.

My main question is, should I aim for early decision at UK since I know I'd be happy there, or should I apply super broadly (20ish schools)?

Thanks for your advice guys

I don't have an answer to your main question, but one of the biggest things you can do to boost your score is practice - not studying the material so much as doing lots and lots of practice questions timed. Go back and figure out where you need to brush up the most.

That's for sure. Taking the mcat totally blind and unprepared was probably my biggest mistake...most likely bigger than applying late.

Would it be a good idea in my personal statement this year to address that or should I keep it on the down low so I don't look lazy and unmotivated?

Nah, don't bring that stuff up. Let your new app speak for itself, i.e. bring your score up and apply on the first day. You're not the first applicant to have either of those problems... 😳

True.
So im assuming I should be applying really broadly?
