Reapplying

Are you serious? There has to be some.

Not sure the exact numbers, but the acceptance rate for reapplicants is lower than for first timers.
There is no real bias against reapps, but most people don't do enough to improve their applications between cycles. You need to do whatever you can to get the best app possible before reapplying. The only real case where improvement may need be needed is if you already have good stats, ECs, etc, but just applied late or to a bad mix of schools.

I applied for 2007 and didn't get any interest from schools. Re applied June 2007 for 2008, retook the mcat in July, and did several points better than the first time. Went from 1 interview in the first cycle to 6 interviews in the second, 3 of which I canceled because I had already gotten accepted at my top two schools. I had hardly any new activities because I didn't find out I didn't make it until late spring of 2007, but it really seemed to be about numbers at most schools. My essay was pretty much the same both cycles, just made minor changes, and didn't mention the reapplication. There really is hope, although it seemed like such a smack in the face, it was a blessing in disguise for me. In my year off I have grown so much and am ready continue my education.

You should make sure your mcat is where it needs to be and apply to the right schools for you.

Gator, my stats were almost identical to yours, so I'm sure this year will be promising. Good luck and try to enjoy this year you have.

What other schools did you apply to jaysway?

You are correct in saying that the hard numbers (GPA and MCAT) mean a lot in this process. I'm optimistic for you this year. I don't think the schools care that you are a reapplicant so I would not worry about it. If they saw it was your 5th try they might comment about it or wonder, but it's common for people to have to apply twice.

Being an Ohio resident, I applied to 3 state schools, NY state schools, and privates around the midwest... ended up having about 10 schools on the list. But once I got into Cincinnati and Ohio State, it wasn't worth continuing the application process. It wasn't a fun process, a lot of stress anticipating the second cycle, praying I wouldn't be shut out again.
