and, it's no coincidence that the women also like....OMT!
Since you can apply to both realms of residencies DO and MD you might have an easier time getting a certain competitive residency, this is based off the fact that many competitive residencies in the DO world go unfilled for various reasons. Good thing I have come to take my pick of the litter😀

Believe me--I learned a valuable lesson: Don't talk music with my future patients because I'm probably way out of their league. I can't tell you what song is on today's top 40, but I can rattle off the top numbers of the high baroque with no problem.

Some say it's the women, it's all relative ... depends on where you go. Same could be said for women at MD programs.
Most premeds do consider DO due to lower GPA and/or MCAT to be considered competitive enough for MD schools ...
Non-trads go because DO schools are more receptive to them; however, more MD schools are taking them, as well.
OMM and the philosophy of "DOs believe in holistically treating patients while the MDs don't" BS ...
I just like palpatin' sacrums...sue me.
Also, it is the only place where I can ask a woman the question, "may I palpate your pubes?" and not get slapped; at least not as hard. :-D

My friend's friend actually chose MD over DO cause DOs are not academically good enough! ( I hope this is good enough to start a war)

That argument loses since PCOM, NYCOM, NJSOM, Western, TCOM, NSUCOM, PCOM-Ga, and now Touro-NY are not in rural areas, but I get your drift ...

Don't forget CCOM, not at all rural and rotations in Chicago.
My reason to go DO... because I live 30 min from the osteo school and I don't want to move.

?!?!? Took MCAT once and GPA is mid 3's thanks. Just because I don't want to uproot my family and make my kids change schools dosn't mean that my stats are sub-par. I am perfectly happy going MD or DO.

Honestly, what are the advantages of MD?
Do MD schools paint the walls a certain color that makes you do well on your USMLEs or do people just love the letter M?

I personally preferred MD over DO before, but after an intensive research and study, i began to appreciate the ways and means in hich DO practice medicine. This is fascinating, and again is not a pain in the butt in tryng to get to DO schools unlike MD schools. At the end of the day, the entire profession depends on an individual job execution.
I found it ridiculous MD students downplaying the roles and integrity of DO profession. Guys lets me honest, is not about the tag that make u successful but the way and the manner u genuinely conduct yourself.
Leys have respect for both unique professions.

It's traditional, there are more of them (better connections), many are state funded and have their own teaching hospitals (and thus, residency programs), published physicians, better residency and fellowship opportunities ... the list is endless.

If you are lucky enought to live in a state with a public osteopathic program, then I would seriously consider some of that cheap in state tuition. I think Texas COM is like $11,000 and they give students scholarships on top of that...

It all it depends on your personal situation. The main thing people often forget is that the results for students coming out of MD schools may be better, but that has much more to do with students than the schools. The students in MD schools are on average much better performers on both regular and standardized tests going in. To expect DO schools to turn students who are average premed performers (whatever the reason for their performance) into outstanding students is ridiculous. To me, it's like people complaining that they did bad on the MCAT because they should have taken the princeton review instead of the kaplan.
I agree, I think the benefits of MD schools do come into play when you want a competitive residency, but I also think... with few exceptions, if you had a hard time performing well enough to get in then you're going to have a hell of time getting the scores to get you those residency spots MD or DO.
Of course, there are always the few that barely sneak there way into med school with poor stats then dominate the board scores proving themselves. Everyone who is reading this I'm sure.
Isn't bad GPA and MCAT score all relative? The average MCAT score and GPA for both DOs and MDs have been going up for last three to four year. Five years ago when IT was booming, average MCAT score and GPA were declining.
