Welcome to SDN, Pip413!! 😀 🙂 😀
My reasons for deciding are embedded in my family history -- partly medical conditions of family members, and partly the way I was raised in a very medically educational/ preventive medicine type way by my Mom. I didn't always know I wanted to be a doctor. In fact, I started college convinced I didn't. I had a hard time settling down and being pre-med. I wanted to travel, and do music, and explore other areas besides the sciences. Some eye-opening experiences I had volunteering and at school, some classes I took where I loved the science, some good and bad experiences with doctors, and my love of teaching all combined to make me think I would be a good doctor and enjoy doing it. A couple of long-term shadowing experiences were very influential in finally enabling me to commit to the idea. OK, I think that's as specific as I can be without giving you my entire personal statement. Hope this helped in some way, although I have to admit that I wonder how it will. But it's interesting to talk about, and I'd love to hear from others. C'mon UCLA, give us a hint!!
Dra. Foxy, sounds like you have a great answer for interviewers asking this question (very similar to mine! ).
C'mon people, let's hear some other reasons. It's better than sitting around waiting for the phone to ring, or someone to post that the phone rang!! (Good luck to all those waiting for the phone to ring.) 😀 <img border="0" alt="[Laughy]" title="" src="graemlins/laughy.gif" />
