Reasons NOT to do gyn on?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Lifestyle, super sick patients, always getting called to L&D and benign ORs to fix problems (sometimes shared with urogyn), pay is not always commensurate with work put in

I work with one and you couldn’t pay me enough to copy her career path.

Yes, amazingly rewarding. Complete boss in the OR. But horrible work life balance, constantly sick and dying patients, compensation less than if you did Urogyn or REI which have the same 3 year fellowship but with better lifestyle and pay. It’s all consuming and largely dissatisfying to me.

If you don’t like cancer patients that’s probably a pretty good reason not to do it.

I’m guessing future advances are probably chemo/immunotherapy based and if you aren’t interested in that it’d probably be a bad fit too?
