I just recently became licensed and to be honest it has only be about 15 days since I started applying for jobs, but I haven't received even one call back yet. And it's a bit disheartening. I have substantial 7+ yrs retail experience as a tech before and during pharmacy school. ( I also have PBM work experience as well). The companies (grocery chains) I worked for previously do have openings but unfortunately not in this area. However, I wanted to give my all in applying to jobs in the DFW area. I have applied to at least 2-5 jobs a day ranging from retail, PBM, and hospital settings.

And since, I have always managed to be employed since the age of 16....this is definitely discouraging me. Granted, I know the job market is definitely not what it used to be and I am not ruling out relocating...but I wanted it to be a last resort and not my first option. I am probably coming off really whiney, because I know quite a few colleagues and friends who applied for 2 to 3 months before landing a job, but I figured my pseudo-pharmacist/tech experience would give me some leverage. It's difficult for me to plan my life around an uncertain future and due to familial concerns...being close to home is ideal.

I have even started studying for Louisiana law exam...if it comes to that. And I have a pretty much guaranteed option in Beaumont...but its beaumont.

Any advice would be great.

Have you been calling and emailing the DMs and recruiters or just filling out online apps? Simply filling out apps is probably not going to get you any replies.

I agree, aimlessly applying without DM contacts seems fruitless. I asked one classmate for DM contacts...and he didn't feel comfortable giving them. I wasn't looking for cellphone numbers...maybe I will see if he can provide my contact info to them. I'm going to try other sources.

Wait... what? Your classmate worries too much. You can simply call a random store and get the DM's contact. That's what I did.

What company, if you don't mind me asking??

When I was looking for an intern job, I did that to all the companies in my area, walgreens, safeway, etc...
Never did the DMs ask me who gave me their contact info. I think it's almost public information.

They have quite a bit of mail order and specialty out there. Check with staffing agencies, that is often the way to get in.

RPH on the go, Rx solutions... They should be able to get you an interview. Keep trying.

If you are willing to drive to Denison, a hospital there is hiring for full time and PRN.

Try independent pharmacies too (Craigslist)! I'm not in Texas but I've gotten a couple interviews by just sending out my resume to pharmacy managers at the independent pharmacies. 🙂

Thank you!! I never thought about checking for jobs at Craigslist. I appreciate your input!

Thank you guys for all your input and advice! Taking everything you guys said to do...I landed an interview with Walgreens for next week...she wanted to see me this week but I wanted to prep for interview questions. And I got a hospital call back this afternoon...it's just a PRN position, but I am definitely grateful to have options that will keep me closer to home. Hopefully, this is the start of many more interviews to come.
