Hey, how much $ did you end up taking home from your active duty ODS pay?
Hey, how much $ did you end up taking home from your active duty ODS pay?
It will be between $4-5K.
You also have to include food and housing allowances' too::EDIT:: Wait I guess ODS isn't the Navy equivalent of COT. What is it? Sorry if this information is wrong because of this misunderstanding ----
I do not mean to question you, NavyFP... I just had previously calculated it to be around 3500. Here are my calculations... please feel free to correct them as necessary.
per revised 2008 pay scale...
http://www.militaryfactory.com/military_pay_scale.asp
Monthly O1 Pay (<2 yrs): 2543.40
1.5 month multiplier...
would equal 3814.50 before taxes.
Low-balling taxes (15%) would give take-home pay of:
$ 3242.33
Is this bad math? I have no background to make these calculations... just the information in front of me.
Hope this helped. 👍
I didn't make 4-5K! In fact, I think I lost more money than I received due to uniform expenses, cleaning supplies, and all the contraband I had hidden in my locker! and that I had to get my starter replaced on my car for not driving it for the entire duration of the stay...and my group was one of the ones that only had orders for 38 days instead of the 45 w school orders.
If you'd feel the need to make it up to me now I wouldn't complain 😎
Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) will depend on whether you have dependants or not. If you don't you will get $0.45 per day for housing while at ODS, otherwise you will get BAH based on the zip code of your school.
Wow, BAH as well if you have dependants. Good deal. If you have prior service time, do you get paid as an 0-1E?
According to the pay chart you need to have 4 years and ONE day in service to get paid as a O-1E. Which stinks because I all ready did four years in the Corps. I wonder if I can find away around it it get it stuck into my contract. You do if it is more than 4 years. (which I think you do if memory serves.)

My enlistment was only for 4 years. 7/22/97 to 7/21/01 so that means I do not qualify to get paid as a O-1E while in med school doing the HPSP or have there been instances where individuals in my position have gotten the 0-1E pay for only four years of service? If you did 4 years in a day in the Corps, all you need to do is submit your DD214 to the HPSP office and DFAS will pay you at the O1E over 4 (or 6, or 8 depending on the total time of service prior to signing your HPSP contract.) If you have already done an AT, they may be able to adjust your pay and give you the difference. This fiscal year should be easy, prior fiscal years not so much.
