I’ve recently been accepted to a Carib Med School. I’m here to ask for opinions on what resources will allow me to get a head start on learning med school content such as UWorld, Amboss, Lecturio, Osmosis, etc?

Before anyone hates on any Caribbean med school, please keep it to yourself! I’m here for advice in the paragraph above and that only. I’m well aware of the school I am attending and the “uphill” battle it may present. But I’ve always enjoyed a challenge!

So any advice pertaining to my question in the first paragraph would be appreciated! Thank you in advance!

I would say it's pretty difficult to study ahead of time for your first two years unless you have access to the current lectures and other study materials. The in-house exams are different across each carib school and it's based on their lectures, and not on first aid, uworld, etc.

You could use uworld to learn for boards, but using uworld to solely study for your exams at your school might not be enough because in-house exams tend to be more detail focused. Also, idk how much you'd learn from uworld without any prior background. Maybe you can, but you'd get majority of the questions wrong.

In my honest opinion, don't try to study ahead of time because I also tried to do so and it wasn't helpful. You're better off trying to figure out what you need to be successful on the island. Assuming you're from the US or Canada, then life in the caribbean is very different. The normal everyday things that you would usually have access to might not be the same on the island. For example, you can figure where you could do your groceries, where you can find certain items, best places to get certain things, living situation, etc. It's whatever you need to succeed. Find out every thing you think you would need to succeed and set it up so when you get to the island, you'd just execute the plan.

I think this would set yourself up with the highest chance of success because all you would have to do is focus on school after that. You'd wouldnt have to worry about where can i get this, or what would i do if x happens, etc. The academics will be fine as long as you put in the hard work and seek out help early when you're struggling.
