Hi, can anyone recommend a 'gold standard' general opthalmic surgery textbook that's appropriate for residents?

There really is no gold standard book. There are not a lot of books on surgical techniques that covers all the subspecialties in one source.

One that has been around through multiple editions is "Ophthalmic Surgery: Principles and Practice" by Spaeth.

I have not read it, but flipping through it once several years ago I remember it to be somewhat "cookbook" in its presentation.

i think it varies by subspecialty. i am on peds right now and have found wright's atlas of strabismus surgery very helpful.
