Hi,

While applying, do we need to get hard copies of the Reco Letters (in sealed envelops) or is it that the application system sends a "web link" to each recommenders - which they will have to fill in instead of making paper copies ?

An online system for filling in the recommendations would be nice, as most of my Volunteering experiences are from International hospitals.

Thanks

Use Interfolio. It costs a little bit, but it's well worth the money. Your letter writers send letters to Interfolio, and you can then select which letters get sent to each school.

Thanks Chip.

So, is this Interfolio, connected to the Application system ? OR do we provide the interfolio link while applying ? - In short how does it work ?

If I remember right, you use Interfolio to send LORs to AMCAS's application, and then use AMCAS to choose which schools get which letters. If you're applying to DO schools, use Interfolio to send letters directly to the schools. That might not be exactly right, but no matter what, it's pretty simple.

If we don't have an AMCAS application, is there anything we should be careful about when asking for LORs? I had heard that there is an ID number or something that needs to be included on the letter, but I'm not sure how to swing that if I get an LOR in advance of opening an application!

You don't need an AMCAS number on your letters. Make sure you ask your letter writers to put their letters on school or work letterhead and to sign them, though. Some med schools won't accept them unless they're signed.
