Hey SDN crowd. I was wondering if any of you can recommend (or caution against) any particular brand of book holder. I know it's not the most exciting topic but I'm trying to buy a holder for my science (big surprise!) textbooks to make it easier to take notes while having it open. I've heard certain brands scuff up your pages, make it hard to turn the page, or can't hold the weight of a bigger book--please let me know if there are brands you'd warn against or if there's a brand that works perfectly. Thanks!

im gonna go with a desk
Prop it up with something. I'm sure you can think of two objects in your room that are extraordinarily heavy and serving no other purpose than to do nothing while you study. Don't just buy something because it's for it. Improvise.

OP - I was looking for one for my anatomy book, I like to type notes while I read and propping it up is not working so well when I'm in coffee shop with nothing to improvise with. I hope someone actually has a suggestion.
Why are people so dang rude? If you don't have answer, or at very least something amusing to say, skip the thread. 🙄
Well, if you consider 12$ + shipping well spent...

You could also make one out of loose metal, though I'm not sure how crafty you are.

That's weird, I thought office supplies bought on Amazon had free shipping (doesn't have to be a purchase over $25). I bought a hole puncher on Amazon alone for like $7 a few weeks ago and they shipped it for free.
Yeah, I knew I was going to catch some snarky comments here and there. Thank you all for being concerned, but I do in fact have a desk🙂 I just don't like to strain my neck looking over a textbook while taking notes; having the book propped at eye-level is easier.
So I did have a book holder in mind (Aggie08 take a look, though you can find the brand cheaper on Amazon): http://www.bookgem.com/
Unlike the advertising on the page, I do not want to read my textbook in bed (apparently, that put the lady in the picture to sleep anyway) nor do I want to carry the device in my pocket (not a big pocket protector person, sorry rHinO1) but I do want the option of putting it in my backpack in case I want to hit the library once in a while. Anyway, this one is pretty good but it does make a tiny dent in the pages and I was wondering if there were any out there that don't. So if anyone does happen to have an actual book holder they can recommend, please do so.

Ah, that looks good. Does it hold big text books pretty well? My anatomy book weighs about 400 lbs. 😛
