I know it's not a DO-centered book, but "Singular Intimacies" by Danielle Ofri is a spectacularly well-written book about medicine and becoming a doctor. There are a lot of books out there that are self-gratifying of the profession, but hers centers more on the more humane moments surrounding it. Check it out.

i thought it was cheesy actually. the author really tried to play on wanna be doctor emotions we may have and was really trying to use a lot of jargon. if you havent read "Complications" then you will see a huge difference in style. Complications is an amazing read! Also "first, do no harm" is an amazing book too.

I have read Complications (a few times, actually) and found it to be of equal calibre, but less detailed. Sometimes Gawande became a tad pedantic.
