Recommended books for CP

I've just started my CP(Clinical Pathology) rotation and would appreciate it if someone can give their 2 cents on what books are good to read for CP. We have Henry's 'Clinical Diagnosis and Management by Laboratory Methods' at our resieden't library but it seems a little bit boring and since the latest edition was published in 2001, a newer edition might come out soon. Any recommendations on CP books ?

There's a new ASCP book out by Mais (taking all of the credit and leaving his former residency director off the author credit's even though I have an earlier copy with both as authors...) called The Compendium of Clinical Pathology. It's a quick review book for resident's and it's pretty good.

Dude you dont read any books on your CP rotation....Im gonna boldly state most people dont read CP books on their residency rotations!

There are tons of people who refer to themselves as "Osler Clinical Pathologists" meaning they learned everything about CP from the Osler course.

Thats only funny because its true, LA. Seriously, I read McClatchy for the CP boards (and that was kinda like reading an airplane repair manual).

I actually thought that the Osler course sucked for CP. The AP was much better.

I actually think McClatchey is much more readable than Henry is.

There is a new edition of Henry coming out early next year. Our CP head (McPherson) is the long time editor of the Henry. I think it is actually going to be called the McPherson this time. That said it is a tough read, better as a reference book.

I have a book called "Clinical Laboratory Pearls" by Jones, that I really like. It is kind of CP in outline mode.

Are these "Clinical Lab"-type books an overview of the entire spectrum of CP rotations?

I'm trying to read for BB/TM but I'm beginning to feel like I should just use the time to study for Step 3 and then hit Osler's before the boards.

I found one of these Clin Lab Pearls lying around today. To answer myself, yes.

I have been using these books. Some are for Med techs....
I wanted a resource with questions....

Henry's is a nice reference but I would buy the review and use the library copy (unless you really want it). Osler is helpful in some areas and sucks in others. Try and learn the stuff as you go along because there is a ton of BS to learn if you wait till just before the boards.

WHO is a must for Heme.

Does anyone really read the AABB Technical Manual?

We have a few folks here heavily involved in the technical manual, so yes, we do. There are teaching sessions on our blood bank rotations where sometimes the only answer to be found is in the technical manual.

Yuck, the technical manual. I would rather eat it than read it. It is painful. But, a good reference.

I hear the new version is somewhat better.
