I kind of asked about this a while back, but didn't really get a specific answer. I am a dental student who is having problems with my hands. It is currently getting serious enough that I might be forced to drop out. I'm on Navy HPSP in my first year.

I'm assuming that if I'm medically forced to drop out that the Navy will quickly boot me to the curb. My question is will they come looking to collect the money they spent on me in the first year. It is a new problem that I didn't have when I signed, but came about after using the high speed hand piece frequently.

I have known several scholarship recipients that were boarded out of the military for new onset medical conditions. They were not made to repaid anything; I cannot imagine it would be different for you.

Thanks for the reply. That is what I was hoping and guessing, but after reading the contract I was a little concerned, as it retains the right to come get the money in basically any situation.

I have no doubt that they can do pretty much whatever they want, regardless of what it says in the contract.

Just keep them informed. They're less likely to come after the money as long as everything is done in good faith.
