Do ER docs see rthe same sort of cases cases most of the time? I volunteered in a hospital and I noticed that the doc there was telling me this.....I guess maybe its because I'm in a small town...What do you think?
Thanks

All specialties have their routine, but we apparently have the most variety by far.

A few years ago someone invented an index which quantifies how many ICD-9 codes (diagnoses) does it take to make up 80% of a specialty's work. Most were in the range of 20. EM had the most with 75.

I don't think you'll be bored.

Ok....So its partially recurring I guess....Thanks for the reply

Did the OP mean recurring illnesses or recurring patients? I have both.

well..recurring illnesses..

In La Jolla, CA, there are only three patient types:

1. Surfing accident victims
2. Spanish speaking farm workers in MVAs
3. Rich LOLs in NAD

Seriously... that's it.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that one. Those tiny gardening shovels can be EXTREMELY dangerous when in the hands of a passive gardener. Seriously, you don't know how many natives of La Jolla have been ended by the self-inflicted wounds of a dull three inch shovel.
