Hey guys-

I'm still in med school in Germany (I am an American). I just took Step I and I am planning on taking Step II but my husband and I aren't sure if we can move back to the states for my residency (or when and if we will move back to the states at all). I know that if I finish my residency in the states it will transfer back to Germany, but most people have told me that it won't work the other way around-I might have to start over as an intern even if I am already a specialist! Does anyone know of any exceptions? Or if the laws are a-changin in Cali for example? Thanks for the help!

Guys, I have heard (but not 100% sure about this) that there "may" be a way to circumvent this rule IF you get your medical license through a particular state....

You can practice medicine in some states( primary care) but you are not BOARD ELIGIBLE.

Some states will let you do a fellowship (for example, you do radiology in Germany, you may get a neuroradiology fellowship somewhere) but you won't be practicing; they will probably just let you teach and call yo ua "visiting professor."

If you want to practice here, do your residency here. Way less red tape.
