Hi all,

Starting my PGY4 year and making up my CV and I'm having a hard time understanding the "references" that I am to provide.

- Do these clinicians actually have to write some sort of "recommendation"? or are they just supposed to be available to be contacted?
- How many references should you provide and how many are typically contacted? Is communication usually by email or phone?
- Do you always put your program director down as a reference?

Any help would be appreciated!

-generally just available to be contacted. most employers know if you want honesty, a phonecall is the way to get it.
- 3, by email or phone
-generally yes, or a bit of a red flag if not.

Agree with above - also a good idea to list your dept. chair as a reference.
