Pharmacists who trained you while you were starting are good, other pharmacists you've worked with, the managers are best. I still use pharmacy school preceptors for some recommendations, esp if they work in the hospital that I'm applying to.
Recently, every hospital I've applied to uses SkillSurvey for reference checking. You enter the e-mails of the people you want as your references along with the rest of their information, hit send and they get e-mails right away. I tell them to just check off max rating on everything. They have a little essay section about strengths and weaknesses that they don't have to complete but I imagine it helps if they complete the strengths section but make sure they aren't dumb****s who will put something that torpedoes your application.
One guy on my reference put this in the strength section, "Sparda would be an amazing boss, he is so nice to the techs/interns. He lets them take as many breaks as they want and does their work for them quite a lot."
That was for an assistant director position that I interviewed for. God damn it.
