What information do you recommend providing letter of reference writers? One of my writers requested I provide her a current resume and personal statement, which I did. Should I go ahead and send my other references these documents as well, or would that be odd or improper?

Yes! Those are very good ways to make them aware of what you want them to include in their letter of rec for you.

I had two PTs and two professors do my references. The PTs were people I spent considerable time with / talking with about PT and my goals, so I did not provide them anything else. The professors were another story. Since they knew me in the classroom (not from observation/volunteer work), I explained more of my background and future plans.

All of that is good information to give them, but make sure your references actually know you on a personal level and they've seen you in action in academic and professional settings.

There used to be an article in the DO section about mistakes people make with their references. The biggest mistake is that students make with letters of recommendation is having casual acquaintances write them

Even though the letters are good, they are extremely generic and acceptance boards can easily spot this. They actually consider these "bad" letters of recommendation
