Does it look bad if you refer to your AMCAS application instead of answering the question. The 3rd question for the loyola 2ndary regarding how you decided to enter medicine, and give health-related experiences? well my personal statement for AMCAS I basically talked about my health-related experiences and mention that being a doctor has been my dream. Do you think that would suffice.I know I would be repeating alot of info from my personal statement so I'm wondering if its even worth to answer the question. It would be one less essay to write about. 😉
Thanks.

I am sure adcoms will not be pleased if you refer to your AMCAS. I was tempted to tell them to look at AMCAS, but I think they do it for reason. By making some secondary application tedious, I believe they can eliminate some of the lesser serious applicants. I know its repetitive, but I wouldn't recommend it.

i think if you put some thought into it and phrase it well, you could pull it off. but personally, I would just add to your AMCAS. i know i know, your explanation wont be as good cuz you wont have as much time but you need something there.

other than the cash, there is a reason we are sent secondaries... they want to know how badly you want this and how many experiences you have had that have directed you toward a career in medicine. i would advise you to PLEASE use new stories, new ideas, new everything in you secondaries... unless you wanna look like a lazy ass

If Loyola is making "refer to my AMCAS" an option, they probably want it to be a real option, especially since it wasn't on the application last year. My advice is if you are regurgitating your PS in your secondary, then say "refer to secondary." If not, then write something orginal. Unfortunately, there is no magic bullet as to how much you need to say about yourself in applications. Just make sure that they get a good picture of who you are. If you feel that there is an area of your character, interests, or motivation that is not coming through in your apps, secondaries are a good place to fill in that gap. If you feel like you've covered your bases, then use the "refer to my AMCAS" option.

Good luck! I remember how tedious and nerve-wracking the process is.

For two of the Loyola questions I put "refer to AMCAS" because I answered both questions directly with my personal statement. I still fill slightly paranoid, because I feel that I "must" say something there. But really, I just don't want to be redundant either.

I just hate the questions where they say "anything else that you want to tell us?"...too open ended! I feel that I must suddenly justify every little quirk in my application and/or blab about my desire to enter primary care and all that jazz. I just had to calm down, discuss a few points, and hope they get the "big picture" from my AMCAS and my secondary.

Ok, just blowing off steam.

I also said "refer to AMCAS" for 2 of the questions. If they weren't ok with it, they wouldn't have given us that option. I think its ok to do this for probably 1 or 2 questions, but I probably wouldn't do more than that.

i would never refer. either copy and paste at least...but the better option is to rewrite it especially for them. IMHO.
