so majority of are wanting to go to pharm school but schools in some state want experience students in pharm setting ... is that true? .... i took the test for pharm tech i didnt pass.. wtf... y what the hell... so is any one has any other option clearly i dont have 129 to pay for one more test..... i have never failed in any thing and here it is my first cetification test and i didnt pass.... any one has any other option?

Try to get a job at cvs or walgreens as a clerk or even a technician if they will hire you without the certification and see if they will pay for the test next window.

Yeah. Where I work they reimburse you if you pass the test. Did you study at all the first time??

i've been told by many that the exam is easy. did you study by any chance?

i just took my ptcb last weekend. the test like many said..."only had like 2 drug problems"...mine had 10+ drug problems on there. i felt there wasnt that much math as some people had said....i think maybe 50% was math...

as many previous posters said...did you study?!

I said that was my test experience, and I didn't say that my test will be like everyone....I am sorry to hear that you had more than 10+ problems about the drugs.....but I did list the things that are going to be on the test...right?

Of course, we all should communicate, and thank you for letting me know in the first place that some tests have more drugs questions than other....I corrected my list in the other thread....👍

Is this a good book to study for the national pharm tech exam?

http://www.amazon.com/Pharmacy-Technician-Perspective-Press/dp/0895827360/ref=dp_cp_ob_b_title_3

I have the second edition. It was given to me by a tech trainer at CVS where I work.

I've read several post stating that Joe Medinas study material is the best!

Please help.

Thanks 👍

I have never seen the amazon one, but it does have a lot of good ratings....so it is a good sign...🙂...please let people know what books you buy and do a review....I will do a review on both textbooks of mine....

^ I bought the second edition of that book as well, but didn't end up using it to study for the exam. It's more of a textbook than a study guide. I believe it is used in some pharm tech courses and will give you far more information than you would need to pass the PTCB. In my opinion, your time and money would be better spent buying a cheaper, more concise book like Mosby's PTCB review (which I found far more useful) and learning everything else more quickly on the job.

i bought the mosby's review book but i have no experience working in a pharmacy store. do i need another book or just the mosby's review would be enough for the exam?

Is Moby's review helpful?
I thought it was "concise" until i saw so many pages of only drug information...(just wondering)

The two commonly used books to study for the PTCB exam are:

1) Mosby's Review for the PTCB Certification Examination by James J. Mizner
2) Delmar Learning's Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam Review by Patricia K. Anthony

These books are good reviews, EXCEPT they have A LOT of errors! So beware!!!!! There were a couple of miscalculation problems, grammatical and numbering mistakes, so you have to be very careful. My friend bought both books and he had to switch back and forth between the two to make sure the answers were correct because there were too many errors. Personally, I don't trust any review study aid that has errors in them.

Personally for me, I took a couple of pharmacology classes in college and a whole bunch of other bio classes so the test wasn't too bad for me, but I definitely needed the review. I studied using only 2 books:

1) Brody's Human Pharmacology (4th Edition) by Minneman and Wecker
2) Pocket Guide for Pharmacy Technicians by Jahangir Moini

These books of course don't have any practice exams, but you can just get practice exams from online. The first one is very detailed in term of mechanisms but it has really good explanation regarding to different classes of drugs. You might not like it because it is quite detailed, afterall it is a textbook.
The second one was the most helpful. It was very straight forward, it had all the calculations, abbreviations, laws, drug information, etc. It is really really good for studying the PTCB exam.

Anyone know here know where and how to renew the certification as CphT? Mine expires in May but I heard there's a website where you can do some training credits online. I do not want to take the PTCB test again.

Information should be on PTCB website, and I think it's just submitting a request for renewal, no test required.

For those who haven't been certified yet and you live in Florida, you may want to do it soon. After this year (or something to that effect) all CPhT must receive a year of school training prior to being certified.
