seems like state funded schools have regional preferences? but the private ones don't care.

I don't know personally, but I'm interested in this topic as well. Anyone?

I apologize I don't have a direct answer but from my experiences/searches I felt that the majority of DO schools don't have much of a regional bias (or I just applied to ones that don't). I'm from MA and so far waitlist at Nova, accepted to MSUCOM, LECOM-E, CCOM, and DMU, interviews at UNECOM and Western U so literally all over the map personally. I'm sure someone else knows better just thought I would give my experience.

OU-HCOM has a very strong IS preference. They do accept out of state students, but I understand that it's a limited number. I can't speak about the others.

TCOM is 90% IS due to Texas law.

Is that true or is that more because of the 5 year contract you have to sign to practice medicine in Ohio. I'm assuming this deters a lot of OOS applicants from applying to the school.

It's actually a law that they have to accept a certain % of students from Ohio I believe. The other part of that is that they have to sign the 5 year contract from OOS.

That being said, if you are interested, I'd still apply, because you can get IS tuition after the first year and it's definitely not impossible to get in as an OOS student.
