Does anyone know how UTSW's regional teaching is? In my interview notes, I wrote something about them not having U/S guided blocks....no U/S machines. Is this true?

What about regional training at other Texas programs? Particularly UTMB and UT Houston?

THANKS

Not true. I spoke with Luis Herazo at the VA Dallas, where you get a ton of blocks, and they have all the goodies including multiple catheter systems and ultrasound. Parkland tends to lag a little with new technologies, but all of the other hospitals you will be exposed to especially the VA and Baylor University Medical Center have all the goodies you could want or need for regional.

Thanks. This is why this forum is so instrumental.

Aren't ultrasound-guided blocks becoming standard of care? It's not like it's a brand new technology - a little slow to catch on perhaps.

Perhaps so (at least that's what I understand the trend to be); however, it's still a good idea to be able to do them without U/S...for reasons discussed in this thread.
