Register for NRMP now or later?

Is there any downside to waiting till late November to registering for NRMP? Am I less likely to get interviews if I don't have my NRMP # in my application? Waiting till I at least get one interview invite before registering... otherwise there's no point I figure.

Well apparently some program contact my friend asking where their NRMP number was which is just odd to me. Just odd. But scared me into signing up now.
