Registering for Step 3

I am a 2011 AMG in intern year and I was hoping to register for step 3 but now, looking for the first time, it appears that the cutoff for the year is September 2, 2011, which obviously has already passed. What does this mean in terms of when I schedule my test? Do I need to wait until next year to register and take the test, and if that is the case, how did I miss such an important deadline? I haven't heard anything about this deadline from my residency.

the fact that the FSMB runs the registration for Step 3 is extremely messed up.

the September deadline is ridiculous, its not as if the calendar year really matters here. then once you do sign up, the FSMB automatically starts your eligibility period that day, giving you no chance to sign up for the test too far in advance in prep for a rotation when you can easily just skip away for 2 straight days. then good luck scheduling a test date, since the prometric centers always fill up pretty quickly and your eligibility period isn't very broad.

It is extremely messed up. I didn't realize that there was a deadline to have the CID form in by Sept. 9 after registering. I just hadn't had time to get a passport picture and go to a notary (heck I don't even have a printer so I had print the form out at the hospital). So they canceled by application without notification and are only refunding part of the application fee. Yes partly my fault for not reading the forms carefully but seriously messed up IMO. They already charge $730 for the test and then keeping even more of my money. I'm probably even more pissed because it is my fault and I had figured out a time when I could take the days off for the test and now that is all screwed.

How long does the registration process take until the eligibility period becomes active? For example, it's almost the middle of October. If I want my eligibility period to be Dec-Feb with hopes of taking the test in Dec or Feb when should I register.

Honestly, its probably best to just call them. They are actually pretty responsive (as long as it is during business hours)
