My girlfriend is considering PA school. She has worked as a Rehabilitation Aide, assisting physical and occupational therapists in treating patients, for three years. Would this type of work satisfy the clinical experience requirement for PA schools?

Thank you!

Hi. I work in administration of a rehab facility; I'll let you know what we have our rehab aides doing...
Rehab aides should be doing basics of assisting care provision - making sure the patients get on and off equipment safely, bringing patients back into the clinic, helping with exercises, clean up of items, being an extra set of hands, etc.

I guess the requirement fulfillment depends on what the school is looking for, but my guess is that a rehab aide gets to see a lot of patient contact and some of the "downsides" of being sick and the "trouble" of healthcare...so it would give some reasonable prep for med school/PA school.

we had a couple p.t. assistants and occupational therapists in my class....
