Has anyone, or is anyone planning on going into REI? I'm a MS3, pretty set on REI. Right now I'm planning on picking a residency through which I can stay and also do the fellowship. I was wondering about the advantages/competitiveness of staying at the same location for both, as opposed to entering the fellowship match and applying elsewhere after residency. I have a few other small questions, but can pm if anyone can help. Thanks!

REI is quite a competitive field and I agree you should go to a school which has a fellowship. You need to start the publication process now would be a good time to start make sure you get honors in your OB and sub surgical specialties and do well on boards. Best of luck

This site is very helpful

Good luck

Do you think it is unreasonable to match into REI from an ob/gyn program that does NOT have the fellowship?

Does anyone know any statistics on matching REI? I couldn't find any data on the Society for REI webpage.

My husband and I are doing the couples' match and it would be difficult to limit our options to programs that only offered REI fellowships, but my heart is set on REI.

I agree with the above advise. If you want an REI fellowship you need to go to a program with an active REI fellowship, that way at the very least your program will consider you. If you go to a program without a fellowship you will be putting yourself at a disadvantage. Remember that fellowships are not like residency, they are about who you know and who will make calls for you! You are talking about 1 slot in most programs. All the publications in the world won't help you win a slot over someone that they already usually know. Regardless do research go to REI conferences and network. And remember that REI jobs are very limited in the us. Many communities can only support a hand full of REI's making where you work a big question mark.
