Rejected Applicants

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yeah I'm interested in knowing this as well. I think the info is mostly available, just needs to be compiled and presented.

Roughly 15k applicants for 5k seats. But some of those applicants are also applying md.

Yeah not everyone who gets accepted to DO ends up going to DO school. So probably around 7500 get in and 5000 take the spot, meaning at least 2500 get into both MD and DO.

So are there really that many people out there for DO that have under 3.0 GPA or horrible MCAT that actually apply. I mean I feel like having a 3.4 GPA and 26 MCAT, and applying to many osteopathic schools that I will get accepted somewhere. Do some people just apply to apply with bad stats and end up doing something else?

My GPA is similar to yours, 3.56 and 28. I think we both have a chance this cycle, although you might have a greater chance than me if you applied earlier (I'm still sending in secondaries).

I would say that for an average DO school there is 4,000-5,000 applicants and there is around 300-400 acceptances handed out for a class of 150-200 seats.

I am actually just a sophomore still. haha. That is my GPA right now and my fake MCAT score. Im just playing the "what if" game. I expect my stats to be around that when I apply though. I think you have a great chance! Good luck! 🙂

Yeah that sounds like a good average for most schools, but most people apply to many schools. That's why I wonder how many total serious applicants get rejected everywhere.

Ah, your GPA maybe higher get! Mine was a 3.4 in junior year, managed to raise it during the last year. Good luck to you too!

We reject about 10% of the people we interview. You have to actually work at being rejected.

I think he categorized rejected and waitlisted without being pulled off the waitlist as one in the same (i.e. not accepted).
Which would be significantly higher then the outright rejected pile.
