I’m looking for some advice. I am very interested in attending UNECOM, but I was rejected pre-secondary because of my MCAT writing score. Due to a computer error during my exam I lost one of my essays, so I ended up with a 34K (12VR, 11BS, 11PS). I took the GRE and did very well on the GRE writing section, so I was hoping that they could overlook my WS score (like every other school I applied to...). I sent a letter asking for UNECOM to reconsider and got a response saying that they would consider reviewing my application if I sent them documentation from the AAMC describing the problem. All I have is a letter saying basically that the AAMC is glad that I informed them of the problem (there isn’t a description of the problem), and that they will work to prevent future problems, but not investigate further... Any suggestions?

If you did that well the first time, study up and retake. Upon applying for schools again, they should just look at new score but for safe measure get a notorized letter from aamc about the first test score and what happend.

Can you ask the AAMC to write something up in regards to your problem?

Wow. I was going to suggest getting a letter from AAMC, but since you've already done that, I don't have any other ideas, but I'm really sorry that this happened. 🙁

I'm surprised UNECOM didn't give you teh benefit of the doubt based on your personal statement and VR score. You seem to write well enough to me. Oh well, unless you can't imagine yourself going to another school, I'd move on without UNECOM. See what happens this cycle with other schools. If it doesn't work out, you may have to retake the MCAT, which sucks because you did really well.

I am surprised too. However I would suggest that rather than writing to the MCAT program you actually call and speak to someone. You are not asking them to change your score, you are asking them to document a technical error that caused a decrease in your overall score and obviously affected your chances of acceptance. I do not think it is fair to ask you to retake the MCAT for a technical glitch that was not your fault.

I would call and keep speaking to higher ups until you get a satisfactory answer that ends with them writing a letter stating that the computer lost or deleted one of your essays which may/or may not have affected the received score.

Good Luck

Thank you all very much for your advice! I will start by contacting the AAMC. I'll update if I make any progress. Again, I really appreciate your advice and support.

Thats ridiculous!!!! YOU have a 34. If you have to retake thats a complete shame.

I always thought schools pay little to no attention to your WS? You wanna trade take my WS score for your 34... 😀

Retaking is awful advice in most occasions. I would do my best to get a better letter from aamc.

I really think an awesome personal statement/secondary essays would make up for this. Especially bc you have a 34 otherwise ... and you hopefully will have a letter explaining the glitch.

As for AAMC...since it was a computer glitch but they want to cover up, I think you should talk to a lawyer

Again, thank you all for your advice. The AAMC was not willing to budge, but I was eventually able to give UNECOM enough information for them to consider my application. In the end UNECOM was very supportive. Hooray UNE!
