so i got bumped by boston and rochester today. anyone else? if so, what are your stats? My stats are higher than the averages at both schools. I seriously don't understand why they did not offer me an interview 😡 Sorry. Had to rant.

i had an interview at BU
and my stats are WAY WAY lower than yours. so bad that its not worth makin an MD applicants profile

i guess that didnt help, sorry

but BU gets 10,000 applicant this year and they are only interviewing 1000
so dont feel bad, i dont know what theyre lookin for!

and i didnt apply to rochester so i dunno

Sorry to hear that. Some schools have particular things they look for. Them rejecting you doesn't mean you are a bad applicant, but rather you don't have what they want. I interviewed at both of those schools with stats slightly lower than yours. Maybe they were intimidated by your stats and assume you won't go even if you get in? Who knows.

I'm sure you'll do fine whereever you choose to go. Don't let a few rejections get to you.

i'd always heard the process was random but i never really realized how random. i was rejected pre-interview from dartmouth last week, but my friend whose stats are significantly lower than mine got an interview. there wasn't anything we could think of either that would make her application that much different (in fact, i had additionally volunteered abroad).

i don't know if there's any particular rhyme or reason to this.

ha...thanks!!! i'm just very disappointed that I didn't get to interview at BU. I actually wrote the adcom a letter telling them I wanted to go to BU because a professor there is conducting a research very similar to my current research project. I guess that backfired on me. 👎

I didn't apply to Rochester cuz they don't accept applications from peeps without US citizen/perm resident status. Also got bumped by Boston a few weeks ago.

AMCAS GPA: 3.73
MCAT: 12 VR 11 PS 10 BS Q

Keep your head up. I'm sure things will work out in the end!

Good luck 🙂

holy crap those are some good stats. i aint got shiz on dat ! maybe they thought u guys were too cool and qualified and they didnt think ud want to matriculate if accepted. i would kill for stats like that. or maybe id just kill anyway. for fun and profit.

I'm actually very shocked to see you guys with high numbers being turned away from BU. I know for a fact that the dean is a number freak. Only reason I got an interview was cuz I was a Masters student there last year. If you need some sort of rhyme or reason you can try this on for size: I know that about 1/3 of the applicant pool submits AMCAS to them (which is a frickin' whole lot) so if you are an August MCATer I think that hurts a lot with them (unless you have special ties to the school). By the time October rolls around they've recieved an overwhelming amount of apps as it is so they probably just start rejecting late applicants right off the bat. I know that sounds lame but it's the best I could come up with 🙂

ditto on what cammy said. i didn't take a look at your profile till just now Stud, and I'm completely surprised that you didn't get an interview 😕

though, with those sorts of stats, not only am i utterly envious, but i'm also utterly positive that you'll get in somewhere else for sure.

wait a second. upon further scrutiny of your mdapplicants profile... i think i might have met you yesterday at the NYMC interview.

Ha...i think i talked to almost every interviewee yesterday....don't really remember anyone from philly. which one were you? btw...there were some good looking interviewee at nymc yesterday

I got an interview invite from BU, but I turned it down cuz I got accepted to where I wanted to go a few days before the invite...I hope that helped someone else to get an interview

BU's interview slots are pretty much full, is all.

Hey, I got an interview at UR and straight up rejected at BU. I think it is all a total crapshoot, since my numbers were above both. Peace

I was rejected at U of R, and they were one of my top choices; I was pretty bummed. If they had waited like a month or two before rejecting me I could've gotten letters of recommendation from some of their staff that might've changed their mind. A rejection is pretty much final though.

i got rejected from them a week or two ago... 32 mcat 3.6 gpa. who knows what they're looking for...

I applied to BU and am an August MCATer . I emailed them on Nov 12 th making sure they recieved a letter from my PI and my AUG mcats. They never emailed me back , well until last week. A solid month delay in an email reply. The only thing they said is that they will be taken into account when they review my file. I have been complete since October 12th. Scary that its almost two months and I still havent even been touched.

i'm the one who talked too much. nervous habit. 😉

as a general rule, i've been impressed by the girls i've met on the interview trail. not many fit the "premed" stereotype at all.

wow, man...so sorry. I'm quite shocked, you had great stats. 🙁

Yea you can't take it personally. It could be something as stupid as they already had enough interviews lined up with male asians from california. Class "diversity" is very important for these schools and you have no control over what other types of people are applying. Or maybe you come from a state/undergrad where people are unlikely to attend BU if accepted. You just can't know.

Also I don't see how BU can be a "numbers" freak when it has one of the lower average MCAT scores.

i met the BU dean over the summer cause i really liked the school and all he kept asking about was MCAT, GPA, where i graduated from, and organic grades...he didnt ask anything about ECs or personal interests so it would seem like they are # ******..but with those stats, who knows!? sux, but you guys will get in somewhere...

they can easily be a numbers freak by having lofty self-perception, only accepting people with super-high stats, and then draining the wait-list if those high-stats people end up going elsewhere.

the average MCAT score is for people who actually attend the school. not for people who receive acceptances.

I don't know squat about Rochester, but according to my BU interviewer, BU is MOST interested in creating a diverse class. Now I know nearly every medical school says this, but for some reason at BU, I believe it's actually true. She explained to me that they're specifically looking at people with solid stats who are well-rounded - both in life and in their volunteer and work experiences. I don't know if this holds true for EVERY interviewee, but this may explain why certain people with incredible stats (the OP, a couple of my friends) recently received rejections.

Oh, and from the mouth of my friend, who's a BU MS2, they're also "Ivy ******" - so, if you went to an Ivy undergrad, that may really help you.

Just my .02.

Happy Friday!

lol ... it's ok. I don't think I would have seriously considered them anyways unless my bf managed to get into the New England College of Optometry. We're trying to end up in the same city or at least somewhere reasonably apart so we can commute and it's been tough !

I have an interview at Rochester. My numbers are not outstanding, but I have a very unique and intense research background and other interesting experiences. For Rochester, at least, the 'whole package' REALLY matters. They also seem to like people who want to pursue medical research careers. Along with Hopkins, Rochester was the only U.S. school that did not ask for the MCAT....up until a few years ago. It is now, of course, mandatory. I'm not sure if that helps anyone but for driven applicants who may not be stellar in the numbers department, there is DEFINITE hope. 🙂

yeah! down with texas!

hmmm... sorry to hear about your rejections! 🙁

if it makes you feel better, keep in mind that BU has a lot of routes through which they receive medical students- their undergrad has a seven year program AND an 8 year program, along with the Master's students. so by the time they get around to the regular applicant pool they already have a good chunk of their seats taken. This is partly why they have such a low acceptance rate even though their mean stats aren't as high as other schools.

chin up! commuting in boston sux anyways 😉
