Rejected by Postbacc and now lost

just take classes. You don't need a formal postbac program to improve your GPA.

Hi all,

My name is Jerome and I recently graduated from university with a 2.8 science gpa.

Seeing to improve my grades, I applied to the University of Texas at Dallas Certificate in Biomedical Studies program in late June. I have just received their letter of rejection via email today. Needless to say, I am very saddened as this is my dream postbacc program.

I did not apply for any other institutions since I felt I need to test the waters. It appears that my application is not very competitive, can someone please tell me what are the components in making a strong postbacc applicant?

Also, should I call the UTD advising center and ask them what they look in a competitive applicant? Lastly, what you reconsider reapplying if you were in my situation?

Thanks in advance for taking the time to look at this.

You basically need an application that suggests you'd be a strong candidate for medical school other than your glaring GPA deficit.

-Strong LORs
-Strong clinical experiences
-Good to high MCAT score
- Upward trend in GPA

are usually the few keys that SMPs will look for. You need to prove that you have the potential to be a successful medical student and that supposing you do well in their program, you will be able to matriculate into medical school afterwards.
